Coral Creek Adventure World

Releases from the elusive Benni (Posix's partner in creating
Kelaxis Globe under the name 'White') are few and far between, but
having wowed us all with Terratina he is back for more with Coral Creek
Adventure World. Terratine showcased dark themes, extreme coasters,
stunt shows and more besides. Coral Creek takes all of these and
amplifies them in a map exploding with coasters, hacks
and...well...explosions! Not only is there the main map to gaze at, but
also a mini-map taken FROM the main map containing its own stunt show.
It's not surprising Benni did this, because the main map has so much
happening that it's difficult to keep track. Judicious use of pause,
backspace and 'load game' might be needed in order to appreciate all
the little effects that occur on opening the map.
The entrance to the park is a classy wooden affair, with a lot
of awnings, fences and hacking. The toadstools added to the foliage
make for a really fun effect, along with lots of quarter tile trees.
Perhaps the main attraction in this area, however, is the enormous
volcano that not only erupts but also sets of streams of lava cascading
down the mountainside. The hacking involved in this alone is
incomprehensible, not to mention the varied Parade and derailed train -
and this is only the entrance!
Off to the side of the entrance using the same classy architecture
style is the stadium. While it sits on the sidelines in the main map,
it’s featured in the mini map with its own animated show called ‘Motors
In Action’ with planes, bikes, and sports cars all coordinated by the
little security guard on the stand in the middle of the screen. These
fantastic shows are a regular feature in Benni’s work and Coral Creek
is no different.
This screen shows the Amazonian Rainforest area, which is home to the
heavily themed river ride 'The Curse of Coral Creek'. The adventure
begins on an island surrounded by crashing waterfalls before taking
riders past pirate ships, through arbours and near an erupting volcano.
It really is a site to behold, and the surrounding rocks and foliage
really add to the atmosphere. The architecture in this area is also
well done, showcasing more hacks such as pillar-supports and
path/coaster track rooves. There are also a couple of hacked 'trees'
which show an interesting spin on the trees seen in parks like DGA and
Erwindale.
Also in the Amazonian Rainforest area is the entrance island for the
‘Curse of Coral Creek’ ride. Some awesome cascading waterfalls around
patches of lush foliage frame the bridge. The way they’re made
completely out of track with rapids to break them up is ingenious plus
it disguises where the ride exits the island on the left side. A café
that offers views of the ride and covered seating is also located on
the island if you’re feeling hungry.
Over on another island in the park is the beginning portion of the
‘Golden Nugget Mine Ride’, a sprawling mine train that winds all
throughout the Yukon portion of the park. After the first of at least
three underwater tunnels, the golden train goes up a lift and then
twists through several helixes in and out of the jagged rocks and
waterfalls before plummeting into another underwater tunnel back to the
main area. The little red carts you see are a continuous moving train
used to simulate mine buckets on a conveyor. Just one of the many
creative details that make Benni’s work so enjoyable.
This last picture shows the futuristic Centauri area, home to a
mega-hacked launched sit down, 'Flight of Stardust'. Sporting a
space-mountain style launch, this coaster also gives good views of the
many twisted structures around the area, as well as the shooter ride,
'Failure Labs'. The park is rounded out with a classic take on Canadian
Yukon Territory, and a not so classic take on an Aztec area completing
a map filled with ingenuity and beauty. Since Posix and Benni first
burst on to the scene with Kelaxis Globe, Posix has gained the most
attention, but first Terratina and now Coral Creek show that Benni is
himself a parkmaker of real quality and innovation.
Well done on this runner-up, and with your brand of impressive hacks,
jaw-dropping coasters and quirky theming it's not surprising that Coral
Creek is a park to be enjoyed over and over again.
