Mysterious Islands: Lost at Sea By Junya Boy Added on Saturday, 16 June 2007
Junya Boy may be officially credited with being the first person to produced hacked rides in RCT 2, but he’s definitely no sloucher with the finer points of parkmaking, at least not anymore. Mysterious Islands: Lost at Sea represents his absolute finest work, blending some magnificent theming with amazing atmosphere as well as marvelous, advanced thrill rides . Certainly, this is the type of park that puts the RCT community on alert: Junya Boy is no longer just a hackmaster; he’s an excellent, well rounded parkmaker.
We begin with one of the parks scenic lighthouses and one of the more daunting and "Mysterious" areas. In the background it is not hard to miss the underwater railroad one of many underwater prices along with the ship wreck and plane crash. Also you can see Axial, one of the parks dozens of flat rides.
Near the entrance is where the Albatross Mining Company is found. This mine train coaster features a very pleasant Mediterranean setting as well as multiple track jumps. Though the immense number of track hopping might seem a little frivolous after a while, it doesn’t underscore the magnificent theming and atmosphere set up by Junya Boy.
Here we get a nice look at the parks outdoor stunt boat arena. You really got to hand it to Junya for taking every advantage invisible track brings to the table. He executes the boats jumps very well, which was not even a choice in RCT for many years.
And perhaps the most unique coaster in the park is Nirvana, the closest realization to a launched B&M 4-D coaster we may ever get. This ride features some nice transfer track segments and is a wonderful fantasy ride, and an added bonus is the LL-esque theming surrounding it, proving that Junya can work more than one, solitary style.
Now when it comes to naming Junya has never been in elite company, however here I think this fiery yellow coasters name says it all "Eruption". The atmosphere is really beautifully and set-off wonderfully by the lava overflowing onto the paths lined with classic LL style buildings with old school wood and brick textures.
Serpent, based on the ol’ Incredible Hulkcoaster model, is a launched coaster with seven inversions set in a nice Spanish/Moorish environment. Here, Junya shows all the key ingredients for a nice, solid ride: a nice layout, good theming, architecture, and setting.
It’s a pleasant surprise in a very pleasant park that’s well worth exploring, both from afar and from up close. Junya’s certainly made a great case for himself, and we may be seeing a future parkmaker here.
