Paramount's Xtreme By zburns999 Added on Tuesday, 25 December 2007

Outside of Disney, it’s rare to see RCT parks that are branded with a company name.  Paramount’s Xtreme, by zburns999, is the first Paramount labeled park to grab a New Element award.  With 11 coasters on a 200x200 map, this is also one of the larger projects lately.  Thankfully for us, zburns999 pushed through 23 months of construction and we’re now presented with a high quality, realistic park.  Although the park requires Wacky Worlds to view, it is certainly worth the download for those who have it installed.

Right through the simple, yet functional, main entry gates, the guest is presented with the classic Paramount entry as found at California’s Great America.  A large fountain terminates in a double-decker carousel.  The calm entry soon gives way to the “Xtreme” with lots of coaster all around.  Turning right from the front entry leads to Intamin’s To the Max impulse coaster, a 2002 addition to the park.  To the left is Entropy, a 1999 B&M floorless coaster with 6 smooth inversions.

Continuing past Entropy, guests pass several midway games and numerous shops before discovering a Paramount staple—Top Gun.  Keeping it short and sweet, the 3 inversion B&M creation shows similarities to California’s own top gun invert.  Behind Top Gun is the classic John Allen out and back Racer, with a backwards and forwards side.  Nearby top gun is the MI:3 Stunt Show, with a boat jump and other effects.

Moving deeper into the park, guests come across Stunt City, a highly themed area with 4 rides and several custom designed midway games.  The most notable ride is Italian Job: Stunt Track, a launched Premier coaster that passes through several themed areas from the movie.  Also in the area is Stuntman’s Challenge, a unique shooting ride around a themed cityscape.

One of the larger areas in the park is the Old West section.  Inside a large building with a great entry façade is Deadman’s Mine, a compact Intamin coaster.  Nearby is Thunder Run, a large Arrow mine train that interacts with Log Jammer, the park’s flume ride.  Log Jammer features some great hacks including a steep drop, custom turn guards, a custom lift, and a working double station.  Although some might say the area is a little messy, all the rides are very well designed.

Featuring big drops, helixes, and a loop, Grizzly is the park’s answer to Son of Beast at Kings Island.  According to the write up, the loop will be removed for the park’s 2008 season and the ride will receive new trains.  Nearby is Boomerang Bay, a small waterpark addition to the main park.  Featuring several slides, a wave pool, and various other attractions, the section is free with entry to the main park.  Pieces are already arriving for a 2008 addition to this section.

The very back of the park hides two of the better rides.  Bat is a double looping Schwarzkopf coaster with the loops located right near the highway for great views on the way in.  Right next to Bat is Class 6, a very well themed rapids ride with great land block work.  Riders are sure to get drenched with a great final drop.

While the park admittedly has some simple architecture and lacks detail in some areas, Paramount’s Xtreme is a great park.  The attention to the ‘little things’ is quite good, (with the park never lacking midway game sections) and all the coasters have relatively solid designs.  Zburns seems to grab the essence of Paramount branded parks, combining styles and influences from many of the real world examples.  Hopefully we will see another park to cement his name as one of the great realistic builders of RCT2.
