What's the first thing you think of when someone says "Nokia"? It was a popular phone in the ninety's, and still remains in this age of iPhones and Blackberries. But today, the word "Nokia" takes on a whole new meaning. Nokia can do a lot more than the phone that shares his name, as is evident by his Accolade Panel status. He made his debut at the now defunct RCTAvenged, and later served as one of the Minutemen in Head-2-Head 5. Now, Nokia can add his name to the long list of accolade winners with his first NE release, Barkwood Amusement Park! Barkwood Amusement Park can be compared to those real-world parks that can only be truly appreciated by visiting them. The entrance plaza of the park is minimalistic at best, but at the same time it is only a taste of the charm found beyond the scenic waterfall. The observant will notice the strikingly orange Blaze arch over the path, while the eager will ignore this wonderful view and head straight for the queue. Blaze echoes the simplicity of the park with an austere layout that winds its way through the center of the landscape. Airtime junkies will rejoice at each of the perfectly executed hills. Those looking for something with a bit more bite should continue on past the row of quaint shops and cross over the tracks of the park's mode of transportation, simply titled Parks Transportation. There will be found the parks most technologically advanced roller coaster, Bullet. Though you may be fooled by the coaster's cotton candy color scheme, its true nature can only be appreciated by strapping oneself in. Much akin to its name, this beast streaks like a bullet down the launch track and then curves upward toward the heavens. And of course, what goes up must come down. And down it goes--vertical, in fact--into a menagerie of twists, turns, and heart-stopping inversions. If, however, you're looking for something more mild, then you might bypass Bullet and head for Timber Hawk. On this trek you'll pass more shops, these having somewhat of a Western façade. All of these fit perfectly in the shadow of this wooden work of art. The station continues the simple style that pervades the park, but adds a bit of the Western charm found in the nearby shops. The open design of the cars adds to the excitement as the train rumbles down a track that twists in and out of itself. Barkwood isn't all about coasters, however. There are two very exciting rides close to the parks entrance: Super Scream and Texas Tornado. Hitting these rides last is a great way to finish out the day. And of course, no trip to any park would be complete without Dippin' Dots, and Barkwood does not disappoint! Nokia has certainly given us something to keep tucked away in our park collections, opening it whenever we need to get away from the chaos of complex themes and JDP's criticism. It's not the Holy Grail that NE has been waiting for, but it will instead serve as a reminder of how Nokia used to play the game, because this is only a stepping stone to the great things he will bring us in the future. |
