58.08% >= 50% - Bronze Win
58.08%

It seems now more than ever that new blood is being infused into the community whether it be in accolades or simply in the New Element forums. Amongst the heavy hitters like Roomie and RCTNW garnering wins, we have seen newer members such as In:Cities and hulkpower25 take home some medals as well. Next up to join them? First-time accolade winner, Goliath123 with his Huntington Thrills Theme Park taking home the Bronze!

Goliath123 may have jumped the gun in posting the news of the accolade this park earned, but it doesn't soften the fact that he's created a park to be proud of. Composed of six themed areas with a total of five coasters, Huntington Thrills Theme Park is exciting as ever. It features a "Black Mamba"-inspired inverted coaster called "Python" that takes advantage of a hilly landscape and muddy architecture, and even a fully themed "Diagon Ally" area from the Harry Potter series. There you'll find all the flight and fancy of the novels, with shops like Borgin and Burkes and a B&M floorless coaster titled "Fenrir Greyback" that flies under and around the fantastical village. In the opposite corner of the park, you can find the entirely indoor attraction of "Falkon Mines," a massive looping dark ride/rollercoaster that dives straight down and even crashes through the sides of the huge structure!

Congratulations on your first accolade win, Goliath123! We look forward to seeing what you have in store for the community next!

I really thought the wooden coaster was well done. Maybe not in terms of realism, but I thought it looked very aesthetically beautiful.

Congratulations on the bronze, Goliath123!

It seems a bit repetive in parts but I love the lift of that black coaster. (I can look at this one when I get home tomorrow, have rct2 at home :D)

hmm

in some parts, this park was lovely and origional and had lovely atmosphere.
in others, it was clean stolen from other parks, and badly too.

all the layouts were pretty bad, and the foliage wasnt all to impressive either.

maybe a little harsh, but you know, i was looking forward to this release.

Yeah, now that I re-view it, I think I gave it a bit of a low score.. I think Bronze is the right award though..
This is what I said in the accolade forum;

Quote

Meh, too much copycat imo;

-mamba kilima (invert area)
-Park Asterix (woodie+foliage around that area and park)
-Zippo's (giant frisbee custom flatride, woodie station and architecture throughout (for example entrance area))
-Tim Burton (for example architecture beneath Sir Lancelot)

The area around Falkon Mines was original (I think), but then again, I didn't like there was nothing inside that giant building.. The layouts were nothing special neither..

I see he is trying to improve by copying others' work, I understand that and as long as the original creators are fine with that, I am too..
There are some nice bits here and there, but I don't know if it's enough..

The quality is there, now you need to focus on being original,

WTF Nothing was inspired by zippos apart from the frisbee. The architecture in mainstreet is nothing like zippo's, its cafes in zippos, mines like 5daves god dmanit :p Also python was inspired by black mamba not mamba kilima, again there not alike aprt from the theme.

Who made the overview with the gridlines on :p.

that would be me. this is something gee and i have often been overextended with.

do you leave the grid on? do you apply the land texture smoothing? shit, would you even be daring and show peeps?? or coaster trains ???!

you sit in front of your monitor, you realise these questions are ridiculous, and yet they kinda stop you from aerialing. it's funny.

i like grid though, you know :p

goliath, the park showed great potential and dedication. i got the feeling as if you dived into your own park more than once and had vision when you built it. especially the huge dark ride struck me with this.

overall i would say your ride and path composition could become a little more consistent and planned out so you can achieve better 'interaction' of things.

i'm much looking forward to what you'll do next.

Thanks Po6! I appreciate the comment, i'll take it into consideration of better path planning.
Oh btw, i mapped out the whole Falkon mines layout, the rocks, out door, lift hill everything was planned, and in my opinion was pulled off really well.

Alright, so you've copied your entrance area from Canthose Valley and not Zippo's :p
Oh, and Mamba Kilima also is inspired by Black Mamba, so maybe that's why they look alike, but I couldn't help but notice you used the same textures and colours throughout.. Black Mamba does not look like that at all, too (I've ridden it a couple of times so I should know :p )..

A nice little park this. I reckon it deserved a silver all in all.

There are some nice areas within the park. The layout of the vertical indoor coaster wasn't to my tastes but otherwise I thought the layouts were good. The inverts layout was nice. I especially liked the finale.

Good work Goliath. Keep it up :)

The layouts definately were the weakpoint of this nice little park.
Moreover the theming wasnt well executed everywhere, e.g. the woody
station was really "detail-less".
Another negative aspect was the foliage, which looked randomly placed.

The strong points imo were the good hacks (Custom Flatrides) and the mine.
(+ some of the theming).

All in all I'd have voted 13 (maybe 14).

Looking forward to your next (Solo-) projects.

You really think we'd miss that? It was intentional as to keep the length relatively short while not giving the entire park away.

wait wait wait.

these are two separate coasters from two separate people?
why the heck did you copy it so closely man?
i mean, even down to the little ruins on the roof and the multicolored roofing tiles.

i would probably enjoy this more if it wasnt so blatantly similar to the work of others.

and for the record, the first thing i thought of when i viewed this park was 'Zippos'.
because of the bunches of buildings grouped together like that.

be more original next time man, and you'll get an even better accolade.
though i dont like the fact that this is so heavily inspired by others work, congratulations on the accolade win.
you've really really improved at this game since i've been around.

Why do people think zippos you should b thinking canthose, the only zippos inspired thing was the frisbee.
^Also i dont see what wrong with copyong the little details. A roofs a roof dont get so angry about it. The layout and amount of buildings and the landscape were different enough to make it unique.
Also ^^ why?
And steve why not make the write up exciting and long? Zippos had a really long one, a description of each area, even the little things like foliage. I'd of thought that for a fully themed park it would of been a bit longer.

^JK did that one. BTW - it turned out really nice Jonny!

First off, I think your behaviour is a bit childish, Goliath.
You think the writeup is too short? IMO it was really well written and please keep in mind that the Release Prep team is investing free time for this site so please be thankful.

About the park: I think I rated the park a bit too high looking at it back now. But Bronze is the right accolade for it.
Things I really liked where the mine coaster - while huge it was unique and was done really well. Also the beaver ride was a nice idea, although not executed as good as it could have been. You also did a great job on the custom flats and the invisible entrances and such.

As the others noticed already - I didn't like the copied stuff it had. The Harry Potter area reminded me of the Sweeney Todd area in WOTB, the invert reminded me of X250's african stuff, the entrance area and the medieval area was a rip-off of Canthose valley. It's flattering to me, but really there's not much skill needed to do this, especially when your skill is really not bad!
One thing I also didn't like: Why did you even did that Harry Potter area? No castle, no Hogsmeade, no attraction even named after Harry Potter main characters. You just made a Fenrir Greyback coaster, some Dementor gyro drop towers and a Bellatrix twister... Maybe you wanted to have the area themed after the bad guys... But why no Voldemort? I just couldn't figure that area out - sorry.

I liked the park, but it was too much copied stuff in it. You should work more on individual ideas, and you seem to have nice ones when I look at the beaver thingy and the mine coaster... Please take those hints to your heart.

The write-up is so short because anyone who wants to read more about the park could just go read Canthose's write-up, or Mamba Kilima's write-up, or so on.
It's something like an illusion, so take a deep breath

are you seriously telling people not to say it's like Zippo's, it's like Canthose? you realize that's the virtual equivalent of telling people you're not racist, you're bigoted. it doesn't benefit you at all, and it's just as bad.

Turbin3: Mamba Kilima is a H2H4 park made by X250 and chapelz... It's great.

Oh, and for a review...

You clearly show that you have skills. Not just anyone can build at the detail that this park has. However, I would like to echo what I said in the AD topic and what others are saying in that this seems to be a rehash of previous ideas, without the execution that made the original ideas magical. Most of the areas seemed ripped from other parks, and very little did I see beyond those ideas. I would cosider this as a WW/TT park: Taking previous ideas and dressing them up differently without improving them, often making them appear worse in the process. I believe that if you take the time to develop some original concepts, like in your first parks like Wisker Lake, you can go far. You clearly have skill, but now let's see some good ideas.

Oh, and the reason why I made the write-up for Zippo's long was because it was the first spotlight of 2009, and a spotlight deserves a long writeup. Also, I don't Steve had time to spend an hour and a half on writing a writeup like I did for Zippos.

Well, it seems needless to say, but my vote was based on how much I enjoyed the park. I thought the massive building with the dive machine inside was pretty awesome; but the actual coaster seemed like you were just trying to fill up the building. The rest of the park didn't do much for me. For some reason those huge dead trees in the midst of the evergreen trees kinda made me cringe. I did like a lot of the individual buildings, but I guess what I disliked most about the park was the placement of everything. You have improved a lot, and I think your next park will be wonderful.

The nice thing about the accolade panel is that the votes even out, so you don't have to worry about the low votes. Not everyone will see eye to eye.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next submission!

I thought this is one of the strongest Bronzes we've had. I can tell you wanted better and that in my opinion shows a great passion for the game. I think the decision was right as being original is crucial as you need to develop your own style. That said at least you've learnt this lesson (well hopefully) now and not when you've filled a much bigger map.

Gee I've sent the logo.

It was a really nice submission congrats on that and good job with the passion and stuff but there is a better way of being more humble. We didn't have to spend time on the write-up or do the logo but we did because you have a good release. Just remember that and your'll be getting more positive reviews.
