During NE's Head-2-Head 5 competition, several new stars emerged as the new faces of parkmaking. Among the brightest was Liampie, who, as a member of the 3rd place Flying Germans, rose to new prominence under a new style. Back when he joined in May 2007, he possessed the classic “Dutch” style of parkmaking. Since then, however, he transcended this, and emerged in H2H in a strong way with Calypso Quay, a week 2 park built with RRP. Although he also captured a Silver accolade with Wunderland Erlach, this newest release could be considered his solo introduction under his new style. Because of this, NE has yet another wonderful release, a Gold one to be exact, Dolphin Bay Resort.

Advertised as Project X.2, Dolphin Bay Resort may just be the most detailed hotel ever created in RCT, quite a feat considering the great hotels in RCT history. The hotel itself is fairly simple and similar to Liampie’s older style, featuring a small amount of extra detail while still managing to look clean and realistic. Coinciding with the moniker of the map, it really is the “resort” that steals the show and sets Dolphin Bay Resort apart from other RCT hotels. Liampie managed to add in a crazy amount of details to surround the hotel, bringing it to the next level, even connecting everything together with a common theme. Like the name of the hotel would suggest, the pool features a great dolphin on its bottom, as well as dolphins leaping in the ocean bordering the resort. Peeps play volleyball on the beach, another touch adding to the fun and realism of the project. Also in the vicinity are two well-done water slides, a disco, and a cute little theatre. The whole area explodes with a life beyond most RCT hotels. Although the hotel itself could be benefited with the addition of the same detail and care put into the rest of the map, the wonderful details in the resort area are more than enough to set a very high standard for those to follow.

It's clearly a testament to the quality of this map that it won Gold without any rides. Liampie, you’ve come far since your arrival, and this release is sure to cement you into the upper echelon of parkmakers here.

Congrats Liampie. I didn't really think it was as amazing as some of the panelists did:

Louis said:

I wasn't astounded by this at all. I didn't really like it all that much. Sure the little details were nice but the overall picture was lacking for me.

I would have put this as more of a high silver, so the 13 region.

But it was a strong release. As said the surrounding details were great, like the volleyball players and the little boat and the dolphins but the hotel itself wasn't on the same level.

Well done on achieving gold though.

Oh and fr3ak <3 the logo :)

I really liked this, as the write-up would suggest. My one gripe, beyond the archy itself being a little underdetailed, is the award for this, and I had the same problem with AT&T Stadium. I feel, for a Gold, there should be a little more substance, considering it's basically the equivalent of a Blockbuster. However, what was there was extremely nice, especially in the details. Hopefully we'll see a large park from you soon enough!

For me this just squeezes in above the gold threshold. I've been to an all-inclusive resort in Alanya, and I really could relate this. We didn't have as much stuff inside the hotel grounds but I can imagine many hotels have more. I think everything was executed very nicely, from the dolphins to the mini-golf course. As for the hotel, I really liked it. First and foremost, it was more irregular than the average RCT hotel, which I really appreciated. The entrance were elegant, and not too over the top, neither too small/unremarkable. The simplicity worked very well I thought and overall I can just imagine a hotel looking like this in real life very easily. Only thing I'm missing is some more elevation, even though it's realistic that they just make it all flat. It could have added a little extra atmosphere to it all. Other than that, superb effort, a lot of great ideas and as Robbie said, finish something large!

I love this Liampie. Your my favourite Non-pm as you know and this only enforces my opinion. The volleyball players and the archy was fantastic and the dolphins created a really nice outlook for the resort.

The waves were nice and the little details were just as good.

Love the logo Fr3ak! The symetry of the dolphins and gradient on the sun are really professional. Our graphics team is really strong and this just adds to NE's great artwork.

Awesome! When I look at the 'Gold'-list, there's my name next to RCTNW, Evil WME, Ozone, 5Dave, Cedarpoint6, egg_head and many other big names. It feels great.

However, I'm surprised to see this up already. I think something went wrong in the communication somewhere, Fr3ak sent me this logo and asked for feedback. I gave him some and expected him te return with a new version. That's why there's no logo in the readme, it just says [LOGO]. It's not a big deal and I'm not mad at anyone, I'm just surprised and it's a pity that the logo isn't exactly what I had in mind for this concept. The logo is pretty but I imagined it more luxurious. Fr3ak, don't misunderstand me! I owe you something, not the other way around. Thanks for putting time into this anyway! :)

@ Louis: Thanks! I agree with the part that the hotel isn't on the same level, but redoing it would be a waste of time. I want to finish Project X and move on. I can't believe Project X is getting anywhere, with 2/4 project released and the other two being both over 80% although I haven't worked on them in weeks. :p

@ SSSammy: Thanks! I never did it on purpose but I think RRP had a great influence on me. His work during H2H blew me away and still does.

@ Robbie: You did the writeup? Thanks, I really like it! I see why you think the architecture was underdetailed. During the contruction I felt myself too that I was pushing the boundaries in the 'wrong' direction if you know what I mean. I'm happy with the results though. With the Gold/Blockbuster talk, I understand what you mean, but I think it's just a matter of acclimatizing; concept creations are spotlight submissions now.

@ Luketh: Thanks! I'm very proud of the volleyball playes, I can't believe I found out that hack by myself. :p

@ Splitvision: I've been to a Turkish resort five times in a row and this is basically a mashup of the hotels I've seen there, in terms of ideas. I'm really glad you could relate to this, as that's what I was aiming for. Thanks! I will finish something large. Blykak is progressing well, I aim at a summer release. :p

@ J K: Thanks! :D

congrats liampie. it's great to see you beginning to win solo accolades. at some point i thought you were stuck as a 'screen-player', but now with this gold win you've established yourself for me.

i voted 14 so i'd say this is a little overscored. to me it was a gold. not a strong gold, but still gold. and gold is after all the 2nd highest achievement for parkmakers here.

i'm looking forward to the day we find a new submission from you in our inbox :)

If you don't mind sharing, Liampie... how exactly DID you get the volleyball players to work?

Looks like they're in a maze, but you somehow froze them in spot so they can only jump...

I'd say Silver, it was really well done but there's not enough in something like this to hold attention for as long as a park
Overall it was great, I just thought the water slides were way too out of the way from the main pool, something you never see at resorts. I would of also liked to see more detail with the streets and car park but not a big deal

Definitely I place I would like to stay at
Let it be

@ posix: I'm not stuck as a screen-player. Many many parks are yet to come! Thanks for the kind words.

@ Luketh: I discoverd by accident that if you lower one tile of a maze while there's a peep on it, the peep moves to a certain corner of the tile depending on the direction it was walking and freezes. I'm sure there are many other uses for this hack.

@ Comet: I didn't mind the slides being remote from the pool because I've seen it several times in real hotels too. It's clumsy, but realistic. Actually I wanted to make a waterpark next to the hotel (screen in Project X topic) but I deleted the plans because they were lacking and otherwise this would never be finished. I had to include slides somewhere, though. Any location was realistic. Thanks to you too!

@ Ozone: Thanks!

@ prodigy: Thanks! I love how you changed your avatar for me, so thanks for that too.

Nicely done Liampie. Reminds me alot of a resort i stayed in in Turkey. Everything looks really well done and as mentioned before I like the way the Hotel isn't a uniform structure like we have seen in previous hotel releases.

Unfortunatly I cant open the park at work so cant see the vollyball players. But I'm intrigued to see if this hack works in LL too.

You could make a nice looking wax figure museum if it works the way I'm imagining in my head :)

Awesome Liampie. :)
I really love the dolphin on the pool-ground and the whole hotel-structure is great!
Moreover the colours were well chosen.

Looking forward to a full-scale solo of you, you have the potential for a parkmaker. :)

Congrats on winning gold.

@ Roomie: Thanks! :) A wax figure museum? Cool idea, but maze-peeps aren't useful for such purpose I think. They jump all the time (they're still in the maze), they get tired after a while and then they look silly.

@ Turbin3: Thanks!

Sorry 'bout the logo thing Liam.
I just haven't had the time to give it a second try.
I wanted to, but I was too crowded with work and other personal stuff, sorry again.

For the park. I loved it which I think you know already because of my vote.
So many little details and things to discover.
It was very fun to look at.

Was pretty impressed by this. The details were just great everywhere. I loved the Dolphin in the pool, the activity on the beach and the stage with the DJ booth. The volleyball hack was really one of the coolest hacks I have seen in a long time, super creative. Now what prevented me from scoring this park higher was the hotel. Yeah it was well detailed like the rest of the park and realistic, but I found its form dull, a little blocky too. Also working versions of the slides would have been nice since it was a peep friendly park. Same with the mini golf witch really was a letdown imo.

Great work overall and I am looking forward to seeing what else you might come up with :)

No big deal Fr3ak. As I said, I owe you and not the other way around. Thanks for the effort! Glad you like the hotel too.

@Kumba: Thanks. You were my main inspiration for this actually, so here's another thanks. Thanks! I wanted to make the rides peepfriendly at first but I realised they weren't the main focus. This thing took me 1,5 years and I wanted to move on. It's not perfect, but it's good enough for me and apparently the panel liked it too! No regrets. :p

You should be proud liampie, everything about this release is polished and feels well planned.Ill try and sum up what i liked i bullet points.

Custom mini golf
A-symmetrical hotel layout makes all of it interesting
Performance stage is sunken into the ground
Little details-volley ball,dj booth,disco floor,sign posts,bean bags on decking,dolphins in sea,boyes
Dolphin in pool
Custom benches
Great buildings

The list could go on.It feels like everywhere you look there are many things to take in and explore.I could spend a long time exploring each little area and will do no doubt in depth in the future

Hmm...

i agree that the dolphin in the pool was probably one of the best ideas in a while. we must not forget it as a 'best idea 2009' nominee for the awards.

@RRP: Thanks a lot.

@Luketh: That's a shitload of work. You can have 16 peeps per maze, but all of them have to walk in the same direction if you lower the maze in order to have them facing the same way. They can't be on the same tile too. Try it, 16 people on the same tile; it's ugly in a funny way.

@geewhzz: Very glad to read this, thanks.

@posix: I never thought the Dolphin would have such an impact that posix would nominate it for best idea. I really, really appreciate that!

Liampie, sorry it's taken so long to get to this however good things come to those that wait and this was very good. I loved all the extras you added to the resort. It was a bit over the top for me as I'm not used to seeing all these extras however it seems this is normal in Turkey based on your readme and for that, you seemed to have pulled it off. As others have stated, there are a number of great touches to this resort from the vollyball players, the dolphins, the dolphin in the pool and the beach front. The hotel it self was great in places however the balconies seemed rather flat and lacked detail that the rest of the resort demanded. Still, this was a classy entry well deserving of the gold. Well done!
