Comment

In Norse mythology, Fenrir was a feared beast, one of the children of Loki, the half-god/half-giant who personally caused the destruction of the gods. The humans who told stories of him described him as a wolf, but he was much more than that. Too big to be a dog, to brutal to be a wolf, he was a monstrous creature that struck fear into the hearts of all. Some people feared him so much that they began to worship him like a god. These people, paranoid and convinced that if this great beast was not treated with respect and worshipped, he would come and destroy them, build a huge wooden monument in his honor, complete with a floral crest. Eventually, the people died out, leaving the monument to stand against the ravages of time. Amazingly, this monument DID withstand those ravages. Discoverers in the 19th century found it remarkably persevered, right down to the floral emblem. Later adventurers in the early 20th century realized that this "monument" also happened to strangely resemble a recent invention that was rapidly gaining popularlity: a roller coaster! It was Dr. E.B. Dwighte who first decided to run little carts through this monument, and he discovered that they actually made a complete circuit! Later investors put actual roller coaster trains and installed mechanical lift hills. To their surprise, not only did the trains complete the track, they also looked like they would provide wicked rides. A few years later, the first patrons (guinea pigs) were brought in to test the ride. None died, and months afterwards, the new roller coaster, Fenrir, was open to all who dared to venture into its grasp. Today, Fenrir still operates in the middle of no where. Admission is about $8 - $10, depending on the season, and guests must go through lots of wilderness and underground caves to reach this magnificent woodie. But all agree that this is the best coaster ever made by idol-worshipping primitives from the Middle Ages.
