Congratulations to x-sector for winning the second ever New Element coaster contest, with his unique and incredibly themed coaster: "Evolution"! Based on the movie starring David Duchovney and Orlando Jones, as you are the latest group of scientists sent in to save the planet from an alien organism that has been rapidly evolving ever since it's arrival on earth. Join professors Ira Kane and Harry Block as you must actually tame the "head alien" on this very-well themed ride. While the coaster experience isn't the best, no other movie was themed to the movie quite like Evolution was. From the different sculptures of other crazy looking aliens, to the great orange supports, and even the placement of the coaster as it's just like it was in the movie, at the end of a giant cave. The coaster concept has been done before, but this ride's theming, and the style of the ride fitting with the movie so well gave this coaster a perfect score from our judges. Congratulations again x-sector. |

Comments from Chauncey Gardner: While this coaster is another in a long, but relatively newly-formed line, of similar shuttles, the way in which it is done is simply breathtaking. It takes all the contrivances, and boredoms of today's park making, and turns them on end. Filled with flamboyantly colored and shaped scenery, intricate landscaping, and a layout, which takes full advantage of both, it is a site to behold. Besides, the orange colored water gets me every time; it's so purdy :-)... and if that isn't what you wanted, um, sorry |

"You can't scream if you can't breathe"
by Butterfinger
![]() ![]() |
A very strong second place performance by one of the
most underrated NE Parkmakers out there, Butterfinger. Taking a movie
that isn't remembered by too many, and I'm sure wasn't thought of at
all by anyone entering the contest, and made a truly remarkable entry.
A great replica of Butterfinger's interpretation of "Amazonia", the
train leaves the station into the trademark of the coaster, as it
glides on the water, slowly mimicing the movements of the giant
Anaconda. After a large turnaround in the swampy waters, the snake
lunges forward, using LIM technology to blast the riders to over 60
miles per hour before entering a huge, incredibly creative Snake Mouth
before embarking on a semi-underground adventure that starts off with a
giant underground loop and features tons of near-misses with rocks
flying by, a great, intense layout, and some awesome ratings. Based on
the 1997 movie starring Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, and Jon Voight. |

Comments from mantis: "One of the entries that decided big was better, Anaconda manages to use a quarter of the map for one snaking ride. Butterfinger goes one step further than most other entries by incorporating detailed architecture into the surroundings, adding further ambience to an already atmospheric ride. Trademark colours and jagged rocks give this away as classic Butterfinger, very reminiscent of Gator in The Outer Banks. Again using underwater sections and launches instead of lifts, the coaster sticks close to the ground, winding its way through outcrops and buildings, as well as diving in and out of the central mountain. Look out for a great snake's head, and the water drop that seems to have become a prerequisite for any Butterfinger floorless. Fantastic." |

For the second time in a row, the third place award goes to a very uniquely themed, crazy B&M coaster. A-K's "The Unknown" floorless coaster got the title in the Legend's Challenge, and now Themeparkmaster follows him up with a crazy-ass ride, "Aliens: The New Breed". There is so much to look at, and the ride interacts with the theming so well (which is almost identical to how I would picture a perfect Alien-themed coaster) that it's impossible not to give the coaster it's credit. Aside from a great coaster experience, and the crazy amount of detailed theming, I admire the way that Themeparkmaster themed the entire map. Lots of cool "extras" about the ride only make it that much more enjoyable. Whether it be opening the park up to see a dark, barely visible steel monster, or the inverted track switchover, or the "Alien!" that flies out at the coaster during one area of the ride, or just the layout itself. Awesome job Themeparkmaster. Based on the movie series starring Sigourney Weaver and Tom Skerritt. |

Comments from Ty: "Aliens: The New Breed" gets a five out of five from me because it captures the film's environment perfectly. If you've ever seen the movie, you know what I mean. The colony/lab look is done very well and stays true to the set design of the movie. Superb! As for the coaster, it's decent, but not brilliant. It starts out very fast and has some cool theming elements (such as the numerous tunnels and the inverted track). Speed loss is minimal, until the mid-course brakes where it loses much of the intensity. Overall, everything works well for the coaster. |

"It's just around the corner"
by Micool

Surprisingly, the majority of top 5 entries were not made by New Element parkmakers. Micool is another great example of a non NE parkmaker who really showed what he's capable with, with this incredibly clever entry. Themed to a movie which would seem impossible to base a coaster after, Micool did an absolutely splendid job. Starting the ride off in black and white, just like the movie, before traces of color start appearing on the track and in the surroundings...just like the movie. By the end of the ride, it's a full scale blast of color, with neon pinks, greens, blues, and golds all over the place, just like the movie. The first drop into the TV screen is another great added touch to this ride, as is the Supercycle. Very well done Micool, great fantasy coaster, and if not for the tiebreaker judge, this could have been a top 3 entry. |

Comments from mantis: "With not much knowledge of Pleasantville, (ie a badly spelt synopsis from Iris), I was impressed by Micool's originality with theme and ride. The transition between black&white and colour is handled well, and I especially like the 'supercycle' sculpture. A cool TV screen and subtle hacks work with the unlikely theming combinations to create an intricate, quirky and entertaining result" |

The final top 5 entry comes from a rather unlikely source to most of you, TheGuardian, who is only now starting to scratch the surface as a popular parkmaker, after his contributions to Minnesota Adventure and now this dedication to the 2001 blockbuster. Black Hawk Down (the coaster) does much the same thing as the actual Black Hawk did in the movie. You must go in and rescue the desperate soldiers from the attacking Somalis. Luckily, you have the mighty Black Hawk chopper to assist you, only this time, you're dangling below. Start out by taking off from a hanger in the desert, before going to embark on a truly dangerous mission. Execute several different evasion manuevers as you must escape shots from rebels below. Based on the movie starring Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, and Tom Sizemore. |

Comments from Foozy: "Black Hawk Down" This coaster gets its points for origionality, and creative use of RCT. The Ride was one of the most intruiging, and followed to premise of the movie very closely. The Fallen helicopter, and simple, yet effective architechture really set the atmosphere. As the ride swooped though streets and caves, it brought a different approach to the Contest. |
