This is my entry for the Concurrenten at The New Block, the story is already going on for 10 years, but didn't post anything here of the screens. I don't have much time to write the story in Dutch, and no time to translate it to english. Maybe I will post some pics of the park in the future.

    Short story:

In the 1980's the environment becomes more and more important in the Netherlands. The local government of Achterveen (a small (fictitious) town in the northern of the Netherlands) closes an old garbage dump and throws a lot of sand on top of the garbage so a hill (the "berg" part of the parkname) arises. They also dig out a big lake (the "meer" part in the parkname) and make the surrounings covered by forest. When the 90's arrive, the site is a place where locals can walk, swimm and enjoy there freetime.

It is 1991 and together with an external company a festival sets ground on the terrain. Together with a small fair. Over the years, the festival grows and so does the fair. In 1993 the local government decided to turn the terrain more into a summer destination for tourists and locals and they built a wooden rollercoaster called "Achtbaan" (Rollercoaster in English) from Intamin. Every year, the park grows and grows. With even more rides the park is getting more populair. In 1997 the park opens a second rollercoaster: "De vliegende magiër" (The flying magician in English) built by Caripro.

The next big change comes to the park in 2001, so stay tuned for more.
