Zero All Clearances (8Cars)
Zero All Clearances is one of the most used functions of 8 cars per trainer because it enables a wide range of functions. Zero All Clearances in 8Cars (as with other trainers) makes it possible to build through everything on the map, but there are 2 different versions available.
Absolute
Absolute zero all clearance makes it possible to build through everything as every object has it’s clearance height set to 0. Although things built afterward will have it’s normal clearance height. The disadvantage of this method is that objects are no longer rendered correctly making it difficult to place new objects, so you really need to know where you need to build to use this one, therefore this one is often advised to the more experienced builders because they know how their buildings are positions etc.
There are some tricks to make viewing in this mode easier, as you probably noticed already once if you build with this mode things will return to normal if you place an object above them, so you build place a plate of objects above them before you add the other things, or you use ground marks (with other ground textures) to mark where you need to build what.
Relative
The relative clearance function is a bit harder to understand, it gives most objects a clearance of 1 (half the land height) this means you can build trough most things but not everything, the positive part of this mode is that the game doesn’t screw up that much and you can look at everything quite normal.
What can I do with zero clearance ?
Now we know what it is we can thing of some place to use it. In this tutorial we’re going to make a rail road crossing using the zero clearance.
First we just build the rail road and the path:
Now we press the zero clearance function (I use the absolute):
As you probably will notice it is possible now to build trough the rail road so we do this:
If you by accident build trough the normal path also you may see a white glitch this is because you build two the same objects over each other, luckily this is quite easy to fix (look at the link). After you used zero clearance and want to normally edit or build things I advice to first restore clearance to prevent glitches.
So we now know we can build to tracks with zero clearance, we can also place objects on paths, for example a diagonal pole. First we make something to connect it to:
and than we put on zero clearance and you will see you can just put the pole wherever you want:
After that we restore clearance again, because I want to remove some of the path now, if you try to remove things with zero clearance on this can result in really strange effects, it often happens you remove objects which lay behind other objects (if you use the absolute). This is because the objects don’t have any clearance any more so if you point you mouse on a point it can’t calculate which objects is in front of the other so it removes the objects which is in front of you mouse but at the lower height, so it could be that you are clicking 10 times and than see your object disappear but than you see that some others are removed to. So always try to restore. We could build something like this now for example:
Now we can use zero clearance to put bushes under this tree. The last time it is very popular to use Converted Multi Tile Trees, these trees react normally just like the normal rct2 trees, but when you are in zero clearance mode you will notice if you try to place a MT tree you often create white glitches, so make sure if you want to use zero clearance in foliage that you always first build the trees and build the bushes after that with zero clearance on. With zero clearance on you will see you can build trough the bottom of the tree:
Now if you did everything right and restored the clearances again it will look like this:
