RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 FAQ
Basics
How do I open sv4 files?
These are parks for the original RollerCoaster Tycoon, commonly referred to as Loopy Landscapes or LL after it’s final expansion pack. This site was started in 2002, before RCT2 was released and many of our parks are for LL. Some of our community members still produce LL parks as many still have uncompleted parks and some simply prefer it.
Do I need a patch to open other's saved games like the Drexler Patch for LL?
No, you are able to open other peoples saved games in RCT2 without the need for a special patch.
Can I play RCT2 without the CD?
Yes, but this requires a modified copy of rct2.exe, the main executable file of the game. The game is copyrighted so the redistribution (i.e. downloading) of this patch breaks basic copyright law. So if you want a No-CD patch you’ll have to find one yourself.
Is the "Error Trapper" message normal when I load a saved game with custom scenery for the first time?
Yes, that message especially shows up when there are bunch of new custom scenery objects in the park file.
How can I do my own scenery objects and where do I install them?
You need the object editor to create your own objects. After, you only need to move the .dat file (the custom scenery object) in the objectdata folder of your rct2 folder.
Hacking
How can I hack in RCT2?
There are various ways to hack rct2. 8 Cars per trainer is probably the best trainer for rct2. You can also hack with a hex-editing program, which offer you the way to cross the limits of rct2, but this one way to hack is a little tricky. You can also modify the games graphics with RCT2GUIeditor.
A message popped up saying "Error Trapper" and then RCT2 quit. What happened?
The dreaded “Error Trapper” is something that appears when you attempt to do something (hacks, for instance) that the game thinks too big a risk has been taken, and will quit the game. This can happen when you zero clearances a lot, or when you hack wrong, so the track you’re going to/from doesn’t align right. There are also many other ways for this to happen, and the best thing to do is save often, so the risk of losing work is low.
