Chronicles By Andrew Added on Saturday, 16 June 2007
Andrew is one of NE's most prolific runners-up and after Echoes of the Past, Imagination Station, Xcape Zone and Universal's Quest his tally is brought to 5 with the beautiful Chronicle. Since Echoes we have seen an array of traditional themes executed with true SAC/Schuessler-like style, and here we are treated to Greek (Troizen), Medieval (Dordogne), Western (The Alamo) and Urban (Los Angeles). There are also two versions of the park. The first is an unfinished version containing a wonderful entrance area from Harakiri based on Mesopotamia. Rich colours, glistening waterways and innovative hacks make it a great addition to the park. The 'Directors Cut' version has an equally intriguing entrance by Andrew, with pagodas, oriental theming and a large Shaolin Temple. Andrew has always impressed with his traditional style and beautiful theming, but Chronicle is really his crowning glory so far. Having taken a long hiatus from the game he has returned better than ever and, you never know, he soon might get the damned spotlight after all!
This picture shows Troizen, a typical Greek area taking its cue from Alexandria in Moonlight Magic. The coaster is 'Dexios', a classic B&M Sit-Down (one of Andrew's specialities) that takes riders on a high speed ride through 7 inversions, rocks and tunnels. Visually stunning and with a flowing layout this coaster is a joy to watch. Troizen's colours are bright and the architecture is a wonderful mix of towers, ruins and pillars. This area was built first, and the next area, Dordogne, also has a guest invert from Elrocko, which shows just how old parts of this park are!
The screen above shows The Alamo, which is accurately represented with sand, cacti and rocky outcrops. The coaster, 'Last Stand', is an out-and-back original woodie with Andrew's own version of custom supports, made out of virginia reel track. The theming is pretty sparse, but does a good job of complimenting the dark colours of the coaster. The architecture in this area is an interesting emalgamation of classic western/alamo theming with path arches, overhangs and hacked scenery. It's really good to see people experimenting with landscaping, and the rocky outcrops in this area show a big Schuessler influence.
Finally, Los Angeles, a busy urban area which really contrasts with the traditional themes seen before. The whole style is very modern, with Harakiri's 'Spiderman: The Ultimate Spin' style theming complimenting a modern 4D coaster, 'Tremor' (another guest appearance, this time by mantis). The coaster has true 4D inversions and Andrew has included great coaster-theming interaction. There is some wonderful architecture to look out for too - for example, KB Toys has cleverly hacked glass windows. Andrew really has surpassed himself with Chronicle. The park has all the trademarks of a classic park and we can only hope he continues impressing us with his beautiful theming and impressive coaster line-ups. Welcome back to the parkmaking fray!
