Greater America By Beejer Added on Thursday, 23 August 2007

NE is proud to present Greater America, a new Runner Up from Beejer! In a departure from his previous parks, Beejer has decided to take a more traditional route this time, shying away from a multitude of gigantic, blinking structures. Yet, in typical Beejer fashion, he still manages to make this one of the most unorthodox "realistic" parks ever seen!

The entrance area of the park offers the most immersive theming and atmosphere I've seen from Beejer to date. With intricate architecture topped off with steep, shingled roofs and plenty of lush vegetation, this area exudes a romantic, old world feel, inviting exploration around the corner. The Garden Spot, an exciting wild mouse coaster, also provides thrills to the little ones who may not be able to quite yet handle the park's larger roller coasters. At the very least, it's a nice warm-up to the rest of the lineup.

A milling area is home to Iron Ore and Steel Mill, an intertwining (but not dueling) pair of roller coasters (the first a dive machine; the second a floorless) that wrap around a gang of silos. It's similar to the general feel of EuroSAT and EuroMIR, at Europa Park--two other coasters that interact with each other and use the tracks of the other coaster sort of as "theming."

Finally, from one processing area to another, we come to an unnamed mining town, home to Coal and Oil Mining Co., a terrain woodie strung around and under and through a network of oil derricks and conveyor belts. It's an interesting effect that isn't quite polished, yet has that RCT-scenario type enthusiasm and fun to it.

Overall, Greater America is a pleasant change in Beejer's style that still retains his fantastic (in the literal sense) fingerprints. The park could use more consistency, and there are flashes of brilliance in some areas that give way to more nonchalant general fill in others. But with further gameplay and development, I think Beejer can one day bring us something really special.
