RCT Innovation have been busy at work for quite a
while, churning out quality solo and group rct2 parks. With Kumba's
success in the PT qualifiers and penguinBOB's funky Pacman entry, it
was plain to see that a collaboration between the two would produce a
quality park. Iron Wood Valley demonstrates this - the areas all have
character, and the two parkmakers' styles merge to form a park that
flows well throughout. From the start it is plain to see that the park
mixes traditional forms and styles with the little quirks that keep us
interested - the entrance building has the 'IWV' initials engraved into
the brickwork (below), while the Main Street architecture is an
eclectic mixture of practically every texture available in the game.
PenguinBOB's
areas are a joy to explore. 'Crow's Corner' is a slightly sinister area
featuring a classic woodie 'As The Crow Flies' and several clever
smaller attractions - from the 'Be Strong, Win Big' test-your-strength
to the enclosed 'Whiplash' ride, PenguinBOB proves he has the skill to
create charming buildings that are more interesting than the usual run
of the mill architecture you get in some parks. PenguinBOB also helped
with 'Salem Village', a homage to the infamous witch village. He is
responsible for the wonderful layout for 'The Crucible' flyer (below).
The layout mixes an out-and-back style with unique inversions and
swooping turns - all around the circumference of a spooky lake.
This
area is also home to the park's best attraction - 'Witch Hunt', made by
Kumba. This is a hacked water ride that explores the park's central
island. Riders get to go on a witch hunting adventure, falling down
cascades and aiming at targets dotted around the extreme landscape.
Also inhabiting the same waterways are the more serene 'Iron Falls
Rapids', just off the coast of the other side of the map - all made by
Kumba. 'Old IWV' is home to the park's biggest coaster called 'Twisted
Valley'. This B&M has a diagonal lift and takes advantage of the
landscape as it plummets down crevasses on its way through 7
inversions. Kumba doesn't only concentrate on big-thrill attractions,
though, as 'IWV Historical Tour' (below) proves. This monster-truck
tour shows that Kumba is fully capable of paying great attention to
detail in making quaint, well crafted gentle rides. His other big
coaster, however, is just as good an indication of his skill - 'Ridge
Rider' is a fun-packed mine train with excellent theming and pacing.
Along
with Acorn Springs by RCTM, this park from RCTI shows that the group
park is alive and kicking, and that rct2 provides a great medium for
collaborations. Sure, the park might not be the most adventurous or the
most innovative, but it fits the bill for a traditional,
family-orientated amusement park. The theming is quaint, the rides are
enjoyable and the detail is great to explore. Really, the only thing to
criticise is the slight lack of variation - there's only so much of
that crazy paving path and particular tree selection that one person
can take. Well done RCTI on getting another runner-up at NE, and here's
looking forward to even better ones in the future (the projects on the
website certainly look promising).
