RCT Innovation have been making quite a splash recently, with parkmakers such as Kumba and Austin Powers getting Runner-Up places in recent spotlight rounds and their continued advertising of impressive looking group parks. Here, Marshy and Metropole team up to create John Williams Through The Ages, a park celebrating the many films that Williams has scored over the years. Firm favourites such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones are here in full force, but other less obvious choices also get a look in, such as The Witches of Eastwick and Saving Private Ryan. This park succeeds on the merits of its absorbing atmosphere and thoughtful theming, bringing all 11 areas (yes, eleven! This map is enormous...) to life.
The largest area is devoted to the wonderful Star Wars series and has attractions based on all 5 released films. Shown above are the dueling floorless coasters named after 'Attack of the Clones'. Dominating the scorched landscape below, the two tracks dive around rocks, lava pools and authentic looking buildings - dueling a couple of times along the way. There is also a wonderfully conceived 'Sith' area, with suitably dark theming and nifty custom entrance arches. The collaboration between Marshy and Metropole is seamless - i'd challenge anyone to identify who made what without looking at the (very informative) readme.
This screen shows the Future Generation area of the park, complete with Superman, Minority Report and Towering Inferno attractions. There is an abundance of flashing pads and metallic architecture, all adding up to a great techno-joy effect. This is in stark contrast with the medieval theming around the neighbouring Dracula and Harry Potter attractions, and the western/tribal Indiana Jones setting on the other side, home to a well-built set of mine-cart duelers, 'Temple of Doom'. Also check out the Saving Private Ryan and Premiere Plaza areas, especially the Home Alone ride and 'Earthquake' simulator - possibly the best bit of architecture in the park.
Not only is this park filled with rides and shops, it has its own resort as well! White and Peach architecture makes this a really sunny, fun place to be, complete with pool, beach and car park. Overall this park is a testament to Marshy and Metropoles boundless ideas, and although film parks have been done before, you'll find several original, innovative takes on favourites such as Jurassic Park and Jaws. I think this really establishes RCTI as a force in the RCT community, producing good quality rct2 work at an alarming rate. Well done Marshy and Metropole for winning a runner-up spot, and we hope to see more from you in the future!
