This round's second runner up comes from two more Pro Tour winners, including one that has really made a huge splash at New Element as of late. I'm talking about sloB, who built this park in unison with Six Frags. Both parkmakers really opened up my eyes with their respective winning Pro Tour entries. sloB pulled off a pretty convincing win in an extremely competitive liquid coaster competition, one which saw entries from Micool and Marshy as well, both who created superb entries, which would have usually each been good enough to grant a win on other weeks. Six Frags had a more "one on one" competition with Kumba in the NE Member-Themed Contest, in which he pulled off a slightly controversial win. Now the two join forces for this snow-themed park. When I first recieved it in my mailbox, I was very anxious to open it up and see what these two up-and-comers were capable of. I must admit, it fell short of expectations, but it does show promise all over the park. With sloB steadily improving his parkmaking with every day as it appears, and Six Frags just showing me his arsenal of skills, I highly doubt that this park is as good as it gets from these two parkmakers, but I guess only time will tell.
In what I'm assuming is sloB's work (just based off the architecture styles and the neat, organized theming), you can easily see that promise I was mentioning in the introduction. The wooden coaster shown here is "Blizzard", really the most conventional ride in the entire park, a relatively standard GCI out and back wooden coaster with some very nice theming and a great use of the terrain. About sloB's style, something he really never does is overtheme. All of his work seems to fit together nicely, everything fitting. While this may prevent him from making something completely groundbreaking and outstanding, it does allow him to make beautiful looking parks every time, and as long as sloB can keep that formula from getting boring (which he appears to have figured out), he should have a very successful career coming up at New Element.
In a snow themed park, a water ride must be done exactly right to really work, and in this case, the simply named "Mount Frost" does just that. I can't tell who made what in this screen, so kudos to whoever built this beautiful water ride. The finale drop is obvious here, as it splashes down the very nicely landscaped, snow-capped mountain, featuring some very skilled architecture at the peak and base of the splashdown, mixed with great snow effects placed all over the mountain. Then there's the very nice looking collection of waterfalls towards the left hand part of the screen, which really enhances the atmosphere and ride experience (nice tunnel through the waterfall, a simple yet effective hack). Also, barely visible in the screen is the large, slightly awkward Bobsled coaster of the park, "Bob's Doom", and one of it's many, many helixes.
Now what I'm guessing to be Six Frags' work, you'll see the park's Flying Dutchman coaster, "Avalanche", and another peak of "Bob's Doom". While sloB and Six Frags' parkmaking styles seem to gel pretty nicely in this park, I think it's quite obvious who did what work. While sloB has a much more organized, neater approach with very nice architecture and theming, Six Frags takes a more...adventerous parkmaking approach. With boxier architecture (which can be seen as either good or bad), more daring coasters (likewise), and a more overall fantasy style of parkmaking. His style does come off as a little sloppy right now, but I think that will change as his parkmaking career gets longer. Still, a very solid effort by two up and comers here at New Element. Whether these two can ward off attemps by voodoo, John, or ride6 for that newest Parkmaker spot remains to be seen though.
