The NE Pro Tour so far has brought forth a whole new crop of parkmakers forward, most of which have never been seen by the general public here at New Element. From Six Frags, to Alienated, or Nemesis Chris, we've seen new people taking the weekly wins away from already established parkmakers such as Micool, RWAdams, and Dantheman. Yet another of these brand new faces has been probably the most controversial of the bunch, ride6, who originally called ThrillNetwork his home for parkmaking, and has jumped right onto the NE scene with a brash, somewhat cocky attitude, but seems to have the skills to back himself up. Following in a very long line of TN-inspired New Element personalities, such as Natelox, Elrocko, and Butterfinger (not easy shoes to fill), ride6 already has impressed me immensley with his winning Indiana Jones-themed Mine Train entry, and now even moreso with his megapark debut, the RCT2 "Sunburst Shores". A traditional style boardwalk type park, with realistic coasters and attractions, and also a tremendous park atmosphere, it really looks like something of the past...a style of parkmaking not often seen at New Element anymore, but implimented in RCT2. Featuring an excellent, traditional collection of coasters, a beautiful waterpark area, and some very nice architecture, the only gripe I could find with the park was the over-abundance of H2O. Still, this marks a very succesful New Element debut, so congratulations to the ever-controversial ride6.
The park is split into themed areas, but very subtley...so much that I just now noticed that it was, after already looking at the park a couple times over. The area shown above is "Platz Volaire", a beautiful traditional area that looks to be Italian-inspired. The main coaster in this area is German-named however, "Tripple Scheife", a classic Schwarzkopf compact triple looper with some serious G's, a ride sure to please the die-hard thrill riders here at New Element. You'll also get a chance to notice some of the really beautiful details of Sunburst Shores, the clock tower resting perfectly in the middle of the midway, the great architecture style that never gets repetitive, and even changes from theme to theme, and the great use of custom theming.
Next up is the Sunburst Beach, the boardwalk area of the park which features a set of boardwalk racing wooden coasters, something I haven't seen pulled off so well since many years back when Dan MacKellar did it in the second map of Adventures Into Imagination. These pair of CCI Racing Woodies are known as "Ocean Thunder", and you can ride either the mighty Atlantic, or the rugged Pacific, each with a slightly varied ride experience and several great races along the beautifully created boardwalk. I was also impressed by ride6's ability to make buildings, and a prime example of that would be the aptly named "Carousel", and the excellent piece of architecture that houses it.
Finally, you'll see some of ride6's more creative ride-making, building what is in my knowledge, RCT2's first Fish Hook experiment (after all the craze Nevis inspired in LL about the Fish Hook, you'd think someone else would have picked up on making a working one in RCT2 a little earlier), known as "Ripsaw". The ride layout is very simple, but the ingenuity is genius. Nestled perfectly in some nicely landscaped rock sculptures, the ride really works perfectly, just like it would in real life I'd assume, much more realistic then most of the ideas we'd seen tried in the past. I also enjoyed the lighthouse and the suspension bridge, both of which are visible in the screen, and are just a couple of the many little details that make this park fun to explore. There's tons of things to explore in Sunburst Shores, with still two coasters not mentioned yet, two more water rides, a waterpark, and some great theming all over the place. With all the talks of "who the next Parkmaker will be", with speculation leading towards parkmakers such as voodoo, John, Micool, Benni, cBass, or sloB (among others), I think ride6's name deserves to be placed in that same category. A very successful debut, and more then anything, a fun park to enjoy. Great job and congratulations ride6.
