The Happy Place By Micool Added on Saturday, 16 June 2007
Wow. This will probably be the strangest park you've seen in a long time, at least since Legends of the Loch, anyway! First of all Micool has created a kid's paradise, incorporating all the things children know and love - Shapes, Toys, Animals and Sweets. Secondly, it is entirely man-made, including the very land on which it is built! Check out the floatation devices on the Welcome Island if you don't believe me! Known as one of the quirkiest rct'ers at NE, Micool has channeled all his wackiness into this, The Happy Place. Having already shown his prowess with his top 5 placing in the Blockbuster competition (with Pleasantville), his rct2 work (Santa's Village) and his entry into the Pro Tour's hotel round (The Everglades Majest), Micool looks set to cement his reputation as one of NE's best non-parkmakers, especially with his love for taking both LL and rct2 to their respective limits.
After diving down a waterfall of evil (as you do), and passing through a sphinx/aeroplane/castle themed Welcome Island (again, as you do), guests enter the area shown above, Shape Escape. As bright as Glasshouse Gardens at its brightest, this area combines all the colours you can think of with wonderful sculptures of shapes, real and imaginary. Racing through all this is the hybrid-hacked floorless coaster, 'GeomeZOOM!'. Booster tunnels, inverted loops, vertical drops and merged-tunnel-anti-gravity-thingies abound, making this one of the most hacked rides...well, ever. Some may be put off by the dominance of pastel colours and abstract objects, but really this is a paradise for anyone who likes fun, and lots of it.
This screen shows the Wild Superfari area, and more specifically the half-enclosed 'Animal Mountain' mine train. This nifty attraction takes up only the corner of an impressive area, also home to soaring birds, scuttling mice, scary spiders and several soaring birds. Micool shows he is accomplished with the Beast, creating sculptures, making floating rides and hacking scenery to enhance the utopian nature of the area. Watch out for the various symbols and motifs hiding in both scenery and path, as well as the cool flat rides and shops.
Finally, a picture of Candy-Dandy Land (also known as Area Fifty-Yum!). This area is home to many sweet factories, including the wonderful 'Chocolate House', shown above. The mega-sized 'Caramel-Apple Pop' and scrumptious 'Salamander Sweet Factory' are other examples of Micool taking small ideas and making them into full experiences, while the readme explains that all the water around the area is both sweet and sour. The 'Sweet Express' woodie also has some of the coolest custom supports seen for a long time. After so long in the making, it is great to see this park in the flesh, complete with the recently advertised fourth area, 'Toyland'. Micool is NE's resident ideas-man, and he seems to have so much fun in bringing these ideas to life. He is a master at hacking, great with colours, innovative with coasters and, most importantly, creative with his concepts. It's impossible to imagine what he'll come up with next, but it's certain that it'll surprise us all. Congratulations on your second Runner-Up!
