The Northern Territories By Aviator Added on Saturday, 16 June 2007
Finally, we have a park that was originally supposed to go up last round, but I just blatanly forgot, so here it is now. The snow-themed, full park solo debut of Aviator, one of the most talented upcoming parkmakers at New Element. Lately, we've had four of our NE Parkmakers put the game down, leaving the space open for people like John, voodoo, Cbass, Benni, sloB, and of course Aviator to step in and replace them. It's going to be pretty damn hard finding replacements for people like Bokti, one of NE's greatest all time parkmakers (and one of my all-time favorites), of course SACoasterFreak, the most legendary parkmaker of all time who just unveiled the best RCT2 park ever seen, Meretrix, a RCT2 gem, and more ironically, OZONE...Aviator's next door neighbor. It seems only fitting that one day OZONE would step down and let Aviator prove himself on his own, and let the "student become the teacher" so to speak, claiming OZONE's old spot and maybe in the future proving he's the better of the two. Only time will tell....
The first screen shows the best area in the park in my opinion, the middle area (all themed areas seem to be unnamed for some reason). It's here you'll find "Time Freezer", a very impressive merged looping coaster with a perfect color scheme to match the themed area, plus some amazing theming that just proves Aviator looks ready to take the next step. He has many of the same skills that made OZONE such a popular and successful parkmaker, and while he doesn't always display them, it's quite evident in this area. According to OZONE, Aviator was also always the better coaster maker of the two, and that's pretty obvious here with rides like "Time Freezer", and "Shiver" the park's wooden coaster (next screen).
Here you see the ride station and lift hill for "Shiver", the park's wooden coaster. The first coaster built in the entire park, it still holds up as one of the two or three best in my opinion. Very nice job of custom supports, and Aviator's outstanding architecture talents are shown all throughout the screen. While Aviator has all the skills needed, one thing I've noticed is that his stuff rarely ever 'stands out'. It's more of a nice, subtle look that you can't find anything wrong with...but can't really get too excited about either. Several other parkmakers share this 'problem', but none have the talent that Aviator has. Just a few more tweaks to his style and Aviator should have all it takes to become one of the leaders of the next wave at NE.
Finally a shot of the simply named (also Aviator, try and work on ride names and area names a bit more), "Frost", a B&M Flying Coaster that sits on the lake beautifully, shadowing the nicely placed flat ride below (one of the very few flat rides in the park). A very nice compact little layout, fitting color scheme, and nice pacing make for an overall good coaster. It just seems to me that Aviator gets satisfied when something looks "right", but doesn't ever attempt to make something look outstanding. OZONE's first few parks showed the same thing though, although I don't want to assume that Aviator and OZONE will follow the same paths, because it's unfair to put that much pressure on an upcoming parkmaker such as Aviator. But, from what I've seen in the past, Aviator has more then enough skill to replace one of those four parkmakers who left. It'd be very, VERY wise of him if he joined the Pro Tour, but I guess he's trying to make the spot another route, and I guess time will tell.
