Finally the long-awaited full scale release of thorpedo. Yes, he's been here quite a long time at New Element, and created lots of smaller projects, such as the "Psychedelica" H2H2 but never has he really graced us with a full scale LL park, and now we get to see it. He has a pretty distinct style to his parkmaking, sort of like a slightly less talented mantis type parkmaker...he really has his ups and downs, even in this one park. There are certain areas that I really fell in love with, and others I didn't spend more then two minutes looking at. He also had two very nice guest appearances in the park, with Prince_Ashitaka contributing the entrance and mantis building the park's premier coaster "Kimiko Coaster". Sometimes I wonder if he needs the help though, as some of his solo areas are much more underdeveloped and almost pointless at times.
Here you can see the forementioned "Kimiko Coaster". Created by mantis and themed by thorpedo, this is my favorite part of the park. Thorp really did a great job theming this monster, but a big part of me wonders how much of it is mantis' awesome coaster and how much of it is thorpedo's actual skill in theming. The Ferris Wheel placement is absolutely superb, and I love the contrast in colors all over the screen. Easily my favorite coaster and themed area in the park, it just seems so much more developed then most of the other park areas. Maybe fantasy parkmaking is just thorpedo's thing, and he should stay away from those semi-realistic areas he has going in the park.
Now you see the other awesome area in the park, the Toxic Waste area. Again Thorpedo thrives when he's building in his fantasy style, and I think he should do more of this (same with his Head2Head2). I love the way he uses rides as theming in this screen, almost reminiscent of Coaster Ed or something with the way he uses the wooden coaster track, the waterslides, and the reverse freefall vertical pieces as gas tanks. The whole sewer theme is just pulled together perfectly by the adventure ride that snakes its way through it all. Looks almost like something Micool would build actually, so awesome job Thorp.
Finally a shot of what was actually the first built area of the park. Here's what I mean when I say Thorp should stick to his fantasy areas. While this part of the park looks great, and really doesn't have many flaws...it's nothing that keeps your attention for more then a few minutes. Almost the same type of problem Mortician had before he finally broke out of his shell. Creating the same generic architecture that can be seen from every other Fatha' descendent, with the same theming. Don't get me wrong, it looks very nice...it's just nothing I haven't seen before...and won't see again. Still, all in all Thorp built him one great LL park here and deserves his first runner-up spot. Congratulations Thorpedo and I can't wait to see what you can do for me in Head2Head3.
