Those pink umbrellas are perfect. They literally make the screen. Also love the green wreaths

The flower-umbrella colour combination is so gorgeous. Love this stuff Liam, although I am a little confused why the statues are all facing different directions and also the flowers on the path.

    Sigh. Gorgeous! <3

So fucking good, Liam. Umbrellas and wreaths definitely make it. Needs more crazy pathing!

There's a little bit too much white for my taste.  Not a fan of the left arches being extremely asymmetrical.  The layout and foliage are amazing however.

Its so elegant and well executed!

Wow this is spectacular, so much details and delicious foliage. I love the toboggan thingy as the head of the tower on the left. In my opinion the dosage of the colours is perfect and so are the paths. 95% for me !

Edit: for some reasons it reminds me a lot of some levels in Tomb Raider IV

Everything in its right place - this is almost perfect to me.

The use of detail here is astounding. It doesn’t overwhelm or overkill, it charms and invites the viewer to seek out all the subtle intricacies you’ve woven into the architecture. In places it reminds me of Toon’s IOA and in others it reminds me of Florence. And that’s such a good thing. The colours are beautiful and you balance them with total control. The flowers on the path are brilliant and the foliage lovely. It all works so well.

When I left NE years ago “semi-realism” (I hate that term btw) was reaching what seemed its apex and Turtle the style’s master. It was hard to imagine back then a real future for “semi-realism” in RCT2 because cliché themes and custom scenery choices by us parkmakers meant that the style was becoming too familiar. It started to lack originality or it was becoming predictable and its progression started to wane. I left NE before I did anything truly good and original (IoE is pretty half-assed) but if I had stuck at it I would have liked to move in a direction similar to the one you’re going with this. The style here is familiar but innovative, it contains history—you can see Toon, Turtle, Kevin, sacoasterfreak here—but looks to the future.

The real challenge, however, is how you handle other thematic areas. Assuming that this is a large scale project, my advice would be to venture into more innovative and original thematic ideas for areas… it’s so easy in RCT to get trapped into recycling the usual themes… oriental, ancient city, medieval etc. I know of this first hand. Here you make the Roman theme look so fresh and new. But if you bring the same high quality that you have here to some unconventional areas in the park then it’s going to be really, really great.

If I get round to installing RCT2, I’d love to take a closer look. Oh and the reason I said “almost perfect” is because there is no coaster in the screen ;)

    Sorry for the long post!

The statues are all facing different directions so it doesn't look like they're all clones.

Although I love the style, I can totally see why the Turtle-sloB-Kevin-you style died. I think it's interesting how there never really was a stylistic 'heir' to this semi-realism. While other brands of semi-realism did emerge, they did not really evolve directly from the stuff that you guys were doing. The closest thing we got was J K's Dreamport I think. 2004-2006 era semi-realism is just a dead end... On multiple occasions I have been trying to imagine what the style would've become if the most notable parkmakers did not disappear, and this is the latest of them. So I'm glad you can confirm that I'm heading in the right direction with this. Mission accomplished.

Don't sell yourself short on IoE. I don't know what half-assed stuff you refer to, but I'd argue that imperfections are part of the whole charm about IoE and similar parks. Even after all these years, IoE is still one of the most well-regarded spotlights and it continues to be a source of inspiration for many people.

No worries, the other areas I planned are definitely out of the box. This area will most likely be the most cliche one, but it's still not just 'Roman'. It will have twist.

Don't worry, I can strike off 'review by artist' off my bucket list now.

    Just perfection Liam.

I don't think anything in this screen needs to change! Wonderful architecture, great use of colors! I like the rotated gold statues, it makes it less repetitious. Those pink umbrellas pop wonderfully too! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!!!

  • mintliqueur%s's Photo

Lovely. Not much to add to what others have said, looking forward to see more of this project!
