New Element has always been about RollerCoaster Tycoon, RollerCoaster Tycoon has always been about roller coasters, and JDP is all about roller coasters. Most of us have been criticized by this Nazi of coaster realism, whether it be an improper inversion or a “cookie-cutter” B&M layout. But despite all of his nagging, he has earned his place among the long list of accolade winners with two Silver wins: Superior Amusement Park and Korsareian Valley. He also helped push the Hurricanes to victory in Head-2-Head 5. Now he graces the front-page once again with his latest Silver, Hutchinson Amusement Park! Hutchinson Amusement Park begins as any other amusement park would, with a quaint entrance and a plaza filled with family friendly rides. As we begin our counterclockwise journey, we pass many unique storefronts selling a variety of wares, including the world famous Coca-Cola. All of these sit in the shadow of the park's oldest roller coaster, The Rocket. Built by Schmeck and the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, it exemplifies all that a boardwalk coaster should be, only without the boardwalk. If you've brought along the little ones, you'll be happy to know that across from this granddaddy of coasters is something much tamer: The Little Rocket. Though it may be just as old, it's also just as fun! Continuing on we find the very elegant Park Drive. It wouldn't be on any coaster fan's must-ride list, but it's definitely something to check out, with its charm and pleasant atmosphere. If you choose to forgo the car ride, there's always Locust. Another kid-friendly coaster, the Locust buzzes around the landscape with gentle grace. Then, of course, you have one of the park's star attractions: Revolver. This coaster is a GCI if there ever was one. The layout of this coaster fits perfectly in its place, encircled by the Hutchinson Railroad. Its twists and turns are matched by none. And if Revolver is too much for you, there are plenty of carnival games to keep you occupied while you wait for your friends to finish riding. Or perhaps you're looking for something with a bit more airtime. Then you should continue on to Timber Hawk. This Dinn/Summers woodie is yet another testament to JDP's mastery of coaster layouts. The coaster blends perfectly with the landscape that surrounds it, and its orange and yellow trains are easily spotted bounding over and through the trees. With four world class coasters already covered, it's probably time to take a break, and the Riverside Restaurant is the perfect place to do so. Or you could stop at Patio Pizza, which offers a great view of the park's most recent attraction, Max Air. There are still plenty of games to play as you make your way to the park's only water ride, Cobble Stone Falls. After getting soaked, you can take a spin on the aptly named Boomerang to dry off. Finally, you have one of the park's newer attractions, High Anxiety. This brilliantly colored coaster plays on your fear of heights with a vertical launch and a vertical dive. The high speed twists and turns on this coaster make it a great way to end the day. But before you leave Hutchinson Amusement Park, you have to backtrack, grab some fries, and watch the Lazer Light Show. Only then will your day be complete. We thank JDP for gracing us with this wonderful gem of a park. The coasters are wonderful and the atmosphere is charming. We eagerly await the day that you will present to us the Spotlight that you have worked so hard on, and it will truly be a sight to see. |
