Related Games / Why doesn't NE support RCT3?

  • jon%s's Photo
Well the topic title says it all. I've had the game since it's release but never bothered with it. I picked it up the other day and I'm really impressed with it, especially with realistic parks. Is it company policy that RCT3 doesn't get notiiced here or is it that no-one has released anything worth noticing (except Six Frags)

I for one think that'd be awesome to see an RCT3 presence on this site. Imagine having a spotlight where you can ride the coasters and see it all from a peeps view.

So yeah just curious as to why there is no RCT3 accolades awarded here.

PS. If an admin reads this can you please change my name to kraft. No caps. It's my DJ name lol

On this note I've come up with a cool new contest idea. Parkwars 3D! It's pretty self explanatory it'd be parkwars only in RCT3. I like the idea so much if the admins don't wanna do it, can I organize an unofficial one in the forums for fun for those who play the game?

Well, there just aren't enough people here who play RCT3.
The majority still is RCT2, with some LL players.
Within the community, the 3rd just wasn't as hugely accepted as the second. Couldn't imagine any particular reason, though.
I think, there are several topics about this issue already ;)

Yeah, everyone here pretty much hates RCT3. I've talked to posix about RCT3 accolades, and he thinks it will be very improbable that it will happen. It'd be cool, but not enough people play it to have a panel to vote on it. I personally would love to see RCT3 take a stronger hold here instead of just me and CD5 and TwistedHelix.
  • Xcoaster%s's Photo
Yeah, it's mostly just that few people here play it, and the Atari community is already pretty well established as the Rct3 community of choice, while we're it for LL/Rct2. Also, part of it may be that we're so into the LL/Rct2 game style that it'd be easier transitioning over to Locomotion than to Rct3.

When I get a new computer I may try Rct3 again, but this one could barely handle it when it was new, and now it can hardly get by with Rct2.

I dont think you can say we hate RCT3, MF72... i mean a lot of practically adore your park and CD5's park. For me, my problem is like Xcoaster, my current computer doesnt handle well with RCT3. However, I plan on getting a new one when i go away to college and will definitely try it again

I would be very interested to see RCT3 getting accolade possibilities.. I've said it a couple of times in the past, but there is certainly enough interest over here, just search back to the topic(s) around the time the demo was released (EXAMPLE)

I think once a few established NE Parkmakers/members really start to play rct3 it could be as big as rct2 and 1.. I know posix is a bit conventional, but I remember he had the same attitude against rct2 back in the days when LL was as big as rct2 nowadays is.. So maybe time will tell..

I know I'll be making a big solo project in the future, but will also still play rct2.. They are both very enjoyable in their own way..

    Wait, just read this in that link I gave;

really, that's very impressive. and peope are doing this with the demo only.
smells like rct3 will bring a new era and save ne.

    ;)

Rct2 is amazing, I really could not get into rct3 and I played it for a while. It just didnt test my creativity and I felt like a lot of the stuff I downloaded did the work for me already.

I'd personally not enjoy seeing rct3 here. There are other sites for that and we specialise in rct 1+2.

CD5s topic is great and I enjoy seeing that but I think the day I see an rct3 accolade I'd stop enjoying this site alot.

Not sounding harsh in any way but I just don't like the game. Its an opinion.

RCT1 was the really magical game, being one of the best selling ever in video game history. RCT2 is basically just a remake of the very same game. RCT3 was a completely new thing and never as successful as RCT1/2. I believe the majority of our community does not enjoy RCT3, and I'm one of them. Therefore, we don't do RCT3. I'm personally also not open to it. I won't put admining efforts into a community that is about something I have no interest in.

I don't relate to RCT3 at all, and I think I'm not the only one. If RCT3 can win accolades over here, Simcity and Zoo Tycoon should be allowed to. They're almost equally different to LL/RCT2 in my opinion.

Like JK, I would enjoy the site a lot less.

i personnally think that RCT3 went more in the direction of games such as Theme Park World and other 3D games.

i personally never liked the 3d themepark games, and was always more interested in RCTLL and 2. its hard to explain the likes and dislikes, as they are totally different games.

i think most here fell in love with the simple display, architecture and rides.
its easiest to get the most out of a game with only one kind of viewing angle too, htere are fewer places to go wrong, and so much more places to go right.

anyway, i could be chatting complete shite. i dont know, its what i feel.

rct3 is not a bad game. the problem was it was to heavy for most computers when it came out.
and I think it differs to much from rct1 and rct2 to really bland in on NE.
rctll and rct2 can be compared with each other but rct3 can't.
and my experience is that people who play rct3, play it else. in rct2 and rctll its more accepted to do groupparks and contests etc. but within rct3 this is rarer (at least when I tried to do it).

RCT3 should have a place here at New Element...

It's just nobody has shown any such potential of the power of this game. Many have touched on it such as CircleVision, MyGirlPepper and others, but what it's capable of should have all us geniuses salivating...

ah, the old rct3 debate.... where to begin....
Lets just sum up why I never played rct3.

-First of all at the time it came out I had pretty much a top of the line computer. If the park just grew bigger than a small park it would become totally unplayable. I have no reasons to believe that current gen computers are going to much better on large sized parks. The problem is with the technology lagging behind is that building becomes a very unresponsive chore. I hate this in general and it's what putting me of at a lot of CAD programs I have to use for my study.

-Second of all I really disliked the graphicsstyle. Way too cartoony. In rct1&2 it didn't really matter a foodstall was the shape of an hamburger, in 3D it becomes an atrocity. Furthermore the ligthing and texturing are very basic and ugly which is ofcourse to make sure there is some performance. It means for me a lot of the game feels like an old 3D game (even more if you have to turn the settings). Most old 3D games where not much of an improvement over their 2D counterparts. In 3D you have to do a lot more to let object look acceptable, something what you won't to worry about in 2D so much. In rct2 I can make some objects pass of for something what they aren't really.

-Third, people tend to make a lot of objects enterily in an 3D editor. This makes them a lot more predefined than a lot of the custom object we saw in rct2 (atleast the most used ones). In rct2 you have parts to make an object. In RCT3 you make the entire thing. Why aren't you building your whole park in a 3D-editor in the first place than is beyond me. It takes away a lot of the creativity.

-Fourth, scaleability. Great that you have more elements for you coaster and realistic physics, but what's the point of it if your tools for scaling are so damned limited. Why can't I just choose a loop with a certain diameter instead of being stuck with 2 versions. Agreed, RCT2 has lesser object concerning that, but why didn't RCT3 improve it's coaster building system. No Limits might be a little bit too smooth for a game, but I really hate the angled pieces in the coastercam.

-Fifth, it isn't the same game anymore. It doesn't feel the same in graphics, in gameplay and most of all atmosphere. In RCT3 I got the feeling again that I had to play the scenarios, a station I have long passed in RCT2 and don't care about anymore (and who actually plays them honestly). RCT3 just feels to me to a wacky kidstyle game with too much content and too little refinement. They didn't really translate the old 2D games into 3D very well. Both are worlds apart in how they play and feel. They tried to copy/paste rct2 into rct3 and i feel they failed like so many 2D-3D conversion games before, which is a shame as 3D can offer a lot what 2D can't. It just doesn't have the old rct feel.

All in all a lot of people here just can't get into RCT3. It just doesn't life up to expectations a lot of people had. We use RCT2 and LL as a design tool, which meant to master that in RCT3 you had to start all over, in most aspects. Most people just stick to the previous game because they like it more and are used to it What's also the case is that a lot of the rct3 players didn't play the first games. It's just a new group of players, with some old rct2 & LL players mixed in. RCT2 and LL has their community, rct3 got it's own and I think it should stay that way. NE was never a RCT3 site and it will never become one. It would also be pointless to do because most people either don't play RCT3 or don't have it. It's not the same playerbase.

Hey Tyandor, where have you been? :)

    You have some valid points there, but, I think you also should highlight some good points.. For example;

-Automatic zero-claerancing: In RCT3 you don't need a trainer to zero claerance, you can just build all scenery objects through the land or other objects..

-Peep POV/Coaster cam/360% turns: You can just freely fly through your park, which is just a great thing to do!

-Nightime/Daytime: It's amazing to see all those little lights give your park a ton of atmosphere by nighttime.. Ok, you get some performance issues if you're on a slow computer, but you can just switch between day- and nighttime with a simple mouse click.

Coaster construction: There are more options with constructing a coaster, as well as more coaster types.

-Custom objects: Ok, some people take it a bit too far with creating objects (although rct2 was suffering from that too, before Toon stepped in) but object packs by shyguy and vodhin for example are just great, fit in and make the game a ton more realistic (like realistic restaurant items and architectural tools)

Also, why is everybody suddenly so negative about this game? Just read back the topic I linked too previously in this topic, and New Element greats like SAC, fatha and Coaster Ed all thought it was a great game and thought about using the game when it was to come out..
I understand Posix' position towards rct3 and he has some really valid points so I'm totally agreeing with him, but I hope that people will use the advertising district to still showcase their rct3 work, even though it can't win an accolade over here..

BTW; Posix, if I can get some NE members, who have been loyal to NE over the years, and are enthusiastic about rct3 and looking to use it as a tool of creativity and want to judge rct3 submissions in the same way as the accolade panel does, would you allow it to be part of NE? Those people can work out the rct3 submissions like the release prep crew is doing now so you have to put zero time and effort into it..
I really think it can add to the enjoyment of NE.. The hardcore rct2 players wouldn't have to look into it, and it would only benefit the NE members who now have an interest in RCT3..
