I think RCT was mostly marketed as a childrens/teenagers game right? Either way, I started "playing" when I was in 4th Grade. I'm in college now. Perhaps the golden target generation of the original release period of the game is just outgrown itself.

As much as I hate to admit it (I still love RCT) I believe you're observation is well-founded. What doesn't help is that the best versions of the game are about a decade old at this point, and unfortunately the versions that followed did not live up to these originals. I think trainers really helped to extend the interest of the game (it's still fun to watch what innovations people come up with) but at the end of the day there will be a need for a good "modernization". I know there is a seperate topic for this idea somewhere.

The games may be old, but let me tell you something about them: I can STILL buy them in retail shops here in the Netherlands (as 1&2 collection), which is saying something tbh.

That's awesome. I would have to resort to Amazon or Ebay if I needed a new copy. Unfortunately they are no longer sold in stores in the U.S. (at least around me.) The only thing you can find is a few copies of RCT3.
