Ask the Experts / Splitting trains

So, I (shit)posted this before, but I figured it might be worth making a full topic out of it. I somehow manage to split a train into two pieces, as you can see in the image.

I haven't quite figured out yet how I did it, but as far as I can tell it has something to do with the fact that the train (a backward-facing 6 seater) hits a liftpiece that faces the opposite direction and that was built on a pre-existing piece of mine-coaster track facing in the opposite direction. The mine-coaster track seems crucial, removing it just resets the coaster when it hits the liftpiece.

With some tinkering I've managed to split a 12-car train into two even pieces, though it needs to pass that segment several times before it stalls on the liftpiece. I've got no real use for this glitch, but some of the more inventive builders here might be able to do something cool with it. If there is some interest for it I can upload the file.

It's called shoestringing, and we have a full topic about it.

I wasn't even aware that this falls under shoestringing. But thanks for the heads up.

It doesn't fall under it, it IS shoestringing. You split the train, stick one car on a seperate route to control the speed, and match the distance in that route to the distance of the actual ride above ground.

Ah, I see. I overflew the tutorial several times, but it makes much more sense now.
