Ask the Experts / [Tutorial] Creating Custom Object Groups/Tabs

  • MrTycoonCoaster%s's Photo
Sometimes Group Creator causes some invalid object, to solve this problem I do so: close the program, open the program, then it works sometimes I do this 3 times in row, then back show the object that was invalid.
Unfortunately the (-) button does not work in Group Creator, it does not delete, in that case I am forced to create new groups.

What I do, is I copy all the objects from the openrct2 folder and move them into the objData folder. Then I open that folder. When you save the group, it will save as a .dat file which can then be viewed in the object importer in openrct2.

You can put the .dat file in the objdata folder.

Datmaker is a lot more complicated than this,

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dragged all my files into MyDocuments/Openrct2/bin/data/object/rct2/ into their corresponding folders; large scenery, path items, etc, ....and everything seemed to go well in the game.  Still confused on these scenery tabs though because I did it this way, in OpenRCT2...  Will it not work this way as far as the Group Creater goes with OpenRCT2's .json files? Or do it your way and drop all my new .bin files into steam/blablabla/rct2/objdata? Ihavent had any luck with this group creator, it scanned the objdata folder and finds nothing..i look in the actual folder in windows, and it's full of files.. blah!!  >:-( I also notice that the openrct object folder fills up with files once a save is loaded, but why move the files to vanilla rct2?  i dont play rct2 vanilla, just OpenRCT@.. lol..any help would be cool.. just confusing.. but it works my way it seems.. I just dont understand all these folders.I think I'll continue what I'm doing and make a save game in the scenario editor in open and see what happens next.. my openrct2/object folder is now empty and it will fill it with the stuff i chose.. The group tabs arent that important to me, but I'd like to figure out how to make my own custom workbench/chosen scenery thats always ready to go.

Exactly, I do as you do, I have several folders with objects.
It is very annoying and laborious to create new groups, but the objects in the parks (save) are all loaded like you said, I am copying from the other folder that I keep a backup of my selected objects (5.062) good number of objects that I can see in the box/menu of the RCT2.
But when I want to use new objects it is very annoying and time consuming, to be creating new groups to facilitate the organization of the construction of the park.
We have more than 13,900 objects that we can use according to our imagination, it's annoying to not be able to use more objects, maybe 256 could go to at least 512 objects.
I still can not find a practical way to avoid objects when we download/save the parks.

Since you are having all theses problems, I guess try using datmaker. https://www.nedesign...attach_id=25881

There is a tutorial here. http://forums.rctspa...?showtopic=4754

    I don't get it.

I am too using openrct2, and I remember having installed:

-rct2 via steam, so "ObjData" Folder is

    C:\Programs (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rollercoaster Tycoon 2\ObjData

-openrct2, with a folder called "object" located in

    C:\Programs\Openrct2\data\object

    with subfolders called "official", "rct1", "rct2", "rct2tt" and "rct2ww",

-another openrct2 folder called "object" too located in

    C:\User\PC\documents\OpenRCT2\object

So what do I have to copy where and where do I find that

    object importer

    ?

I downloaded datmaker too, but your tutorial link won't work so I am boned.

I'm not sure what the difference is between openrct2/data/object and openrct2/object, its been a while, I would try opening documents/OpenRCT2/object. don't bother copying

    nice, thx!

But it seems I could browse any object folder I want with that proggy, it won't scan anything. :(

Its not like there would happen to be a new progam to create custom groups? :DD

    thx dude :)

The scan isn't gonna scan anything since you didnt add anything to the scenery group. The browse just changes the default to directory to look for scenery objects in so they can be viewed.

Use the + to add objects.

So one could skip that browse step i persume? (and find the directory for yourself. every time.)

However, thanks a lot, now it kinda worked but look for yourself:

it seems like the objects I want in that group should be saved where they were when you edited your group, which could be troubling when giving your group to others? And how to make your objects appear just once in your palette? :D

Is there a macOS version of the program?

  • nicman%s's Photo

I don't think there is a mac version of any rct2 tools outside of openrct2. Your best bet is a virtual machine.
