    Disney's MiniSeas by John

    John's Parkmaker Page

Well, I said that two non parkmakers would be crowned from the Pro Tour, so I'd like to congratulate John for earning his Parkmaker Spot finally! Barely missing the top ten, I got what I wanted from John to be able to crown him a parkmaker after months and months of waiting....a finished project. He's always had the talent, most notably the architectural skills to be a parkmaker, and all he was missing was finished work. And while his rap sheet is still pretty bare, his Riyadah Hotel preliminary entry and this park have convinced me to give him the spot, so welcome to the crew! Onto the park, it's the most pleasent park in the contest. He seems to have that Corkscrewed vibe, where the atmosphere just oozes out of every building and every ride. He knows when not to overtheme, when to let the classy, subtle beauty just take over, and it comes out almost perfect. A pretty damn clever spin on the DisneySea chain, I was really impressed at the way he conveyed the themes with such little space. He's shown me more then enough talent to be get that Parkmaker Spot...so hey, one more Parkmaker on the Eyekons!

dissapointing, IMO. The whole thing takes about 20 seconds to look at.

I'd take a detailed, creative entry like Kumba's any day over this...

Anyways john, I don't think this should have earned you a parkmaker spot, however I do beleive some of your other work is good enough. I have yet to see a great coaster from you, but this entry does show you can do architecture and water rides, at least.

I'm with toon on the quantity comment. Quality-wise, all 3 of your themes were nice looking, I liked the purple spirals near the twin launch towers, and I thought the liquid coaster was well laid out.

Your architecture has drastically improved from your mega 1x1 days, although I'm not a fan of the facade style in your entrance area, just me though.

Awesome parkmaking skills shown here, absolutely grand. All the buildings were most delightful to look at. My favorite part of the park was the transfer system made for the water coaster. Details=My Best Friend. If anything brought the park down in my eyes, it was the bare rides, like The Galleon and the ferris wheel, which brought down the Disney feel just a tad. Maybe the Space Shots too, some more themeing at the top would've been nice, as the coaster track also made the Disney feel/look drop a notch.

    But yes, overall, loved it.

    I agree with gymkid.

I think Kumba's park was much better. John's park is pretty bare and boring. The architecture is good, but that all the park really is. Basically half of it's water and the water coaster is like the other 500 versions out there. It was good, but I don't think it was better than Kumba's park. Hopefully you will start releasing some parks now that your parkmaker.

    HAHA IS THIS A JOKE!?

    JOHN AS PARKMAKER!?

I don't think this is necissary, Matt.

    Just my opinion...

The screens I think are to plain.
  • Turtleman%s's Photo
Heh I just figured out who's the other parkmaker.
  • deanosrs%s's Photo
    ^ pretty obvious, no?

I loved the park. If I'm being honest, I didn't think Crocky's ds park was up to spotlight, but this is definitely spotlight quality. It's so composed and consistent. Yes, Kumba's dino section is better than this... but the rest of his park, although good, was too spontaneous.

The Journey to the Centre had one too many lift hills for me, but apart from that it was perfect. The water in the middle of the park I thought was put to good effect, it contributed to the atmosphere, and this is after all a Disney Sea park. The fact that the only "faults" I could see where some off-centre signs and a cake stall not facing the path shows how well John built this park. Yes, there are no coasters, but I think John proved that in his unfinished stuff, he had a nice corkscrew in there and a floorless in the atlantis park I believe.

So for me the parkmaker spot is deserved, given that he can complete a larger map. Perhaps it was just the first major park that was challenging to complete? Anyway, congrats :birthday2:

I really liked this park. I actually spent time looking at all the buildings because they were all different and interesting (that's what I loved about DSS). The Mysterious Island area was my favourite - the job on that liquid was excellent, especially in the corner around that volcano, and with the mid-ride steep drop from that rickety platform. Good stuff. I liked Triton's area as well, with the bright colours and cool twisty things.

All around a great job and congrats on the parkmaker spot - and you actually got positively vTd'ed which must count for something :)

I agree with the others... it's very disappointing imo...
This looks, like the other unfinished work from John, also unfinished.. now, though, the empty green grass is replaced by water...
I also don't agree on the buildings being different... they are all built the same, and most of them with 1/4 tile balconies and much doors (used as windows sometimes)... some also have the same colors (reds with whites, and brown with gold)... and some also look kinda blocky...
The only good thing about this is the pathing imo... but sometimes there is too much of it...
The watercoaster, as said, has too many lifts, and is obviously inspired by Slob's preliminary entry (the first lift hill and first drop).. I also dislike the unthemed volcano. You could've added some lava in a creative way to make it more interesting, or something else...
The flowers are nice, but are kinda the same in each area..
So in conclusion, I didn't like it, and I thought Kumba's was much more creative and skilled in every way, and I think that should've at least been higher than this...
But congrats on being a parkmaker.. Now you are one, I expect to see much greater work from you, on parkmaker level, and actually completed parks... otherwise I don't see how being a NE Parkmaker here is that special... Don't get me wrong, I do like the park, and it shows skill, but I expected a lot more...

John the park was nice, I was not to crazy about the entrance area, or tritan towers (how can it say castle when their is no castle around?) to be honest the only part I really liked was Journey to the Centre of the Earth, very well done. A very good entry, but I thought you could have done a lot better.

Now I got to say I am jealous that you got the spot, our park's tied so I guess Foozy had to brake it. The park was good but IMO if you got the spot I should have aswell, It alreddy seems people think my entry was better, and this was really tight. After all my hard work in this contest I have only come out with a contest page, and thats great, but I was really hopeing to get one of the two spots and it hurts to miss it by so little. I guess I should be used to comeing in second by now but it still hurts, at the awards it was not so bad coz Phatage was much more worthy, but this time I feel I got the short end of the stick. I think 3 mite have been a good number of PT parkmakers, but I guess what they say is true, three is a crowd.

    Kumba :(

I really liked the park. It had some great atmosphere and some amazing landscaping. My favorite coaster in the park was Journey to the Centre because of the nice layout and hacks, I especially liked the gates opening up in the water. The whole Mysterious Island section was great and by far the best area in the park.

I thought your architecture could have been a little better though. It was too Corkscrewed influenced, and I don't really care for that style. I was hoping for more detail like in your other work. My favorite building was actually that purple one in the middle of the rapids.
  • mantis%s's Photo
Kumba- i'd vouch for you being next on the list, that's for sure.

Download one of the other parks with objects exported, I think all of the other rct2 parks have that.

Here's the strangeness of the whole thing. I put John ahead of Kumba by one spot in my rankings even tho they both had the same basic score from me. The reason was that as a park, I thought John's worked better than Kumba's and I just liked it slightly better from an aesthetic point of view. However, if I were selecting a parkmaker from the two, I would've chosen Kumba because I thought his park showed way more potential for pushing the boundaries and creativity. That doesn't mean John shouldn't be a parkmaker, I just think that Kumba might have more 'upside' at the moment. I still stand by my contest rankings, however, Kumba unfortunately might have got the short end of the stick.

To Kumba, I know you're disappointed, but take solace in the fact that you are developing quite a following in the community and yours is coming I'm sure. Don't wallow in this tho. You've said your piece and it is probably wise to not say much else about it. The chips didn't fall in your favour this time, but if you take it with class, you'll definitely come out ahead for it in the end. Don't get too focused on the parkmaker spot, because it'll suck the fun out of parkmaking for you. With your obvious creative skill, it will come. Finally I think that your desire to get parkmaker may have hurt your entry in my eyes. I really felt like you just tried to cram every little hack and idea you could into the park to try to impress. In the process you forgot about the overall look and atmosphere of the park and it came across to me as messy and unorganized.

To John, congrats! I hope any controversy doesn't dull this for you. You are a skilled architect and built a great little park. My complaint really was that it was a little to spread out and there was too much filler. I'm guessing time was an issue, but maybe you wanted it that way. Anyways, once again, congrats. It took six people to decide your placement in this competition and you earned your spot according to the conditions set up before the PT started. The judging was fair, so opinions aside, this is your time.

Looks like SDI is going to have have three parkmakers. ;)

Great work. I'll look at it later.
  • gymkid dude%s's Photo
ya...it did look like Kumba tried to cram every idea he could in, and it impressed the hell out of me. It was like a showcase of ownage, albeit a bit disjointed. Other than some nice looking buildings, which I admit may be an understatement, I just felt that john's had no substance, due to the huge scale he chose to build in re: paths, water, and buildings.

I feel bad for Kumba (wtf?).
