General Chat / Laptop recommendations

Hey guys. I desperately want to get back into rct but have been without a computer for a few months now. So I'm looking for a relatively cheap laptop that I mainly want for rct and just surfing the web. Something in the $300 range. The ones I'm finding on amazon people ask of they can be used for games and they are saying no. So instead of buying one hoping it'll work I'm asking you guys what your recommendations are.

I need to get one before H2H7 starts so I can keep up!!

rct2 is a game from like 2000, you can play it on an intel i3 and really shit graphics card

if you had to you could probably get a capable (light) web browsing and old timey game machine for <$100.

Intamin that one doesn't have a cd drive. Also why would some of the Acer laptops I've been looking at that have a dc drive not be able to play games as they are claiming?

In my opinion, if you are going to invest in a Laptop, or any piece of tech like a laptop, buy something that is going to last and serve all your uses. Personally I dont think its worth it to buy a cheep laptop that cant do anything but play RCT and go online.

This is what I have for school and gaming use.  Probably a little more than what you are looking for, but it can run games like Bioshock Infinite and BF4 decently well. It also has a disc drive, which is nice.

with the GoG versions of RCT/2 you wouldn't need a CD.  The gaming performance of a computer depends on a lot of factors, and the bar for older games like RCT is pretty low.  Current games demand much more powerful hardware than you'd ever need if you were just going to play, say, RCT, Team Fortress 2, and Solitaire.

Well I have a MacBook for my primary needs and rct is literally the only game I play on the computer. I use my xbox one for all my gaming. And what the hell is the GoG version of rct? And why have I never heard of it. Haha

GoG stands for Good old Games, a website that offers DRM and more capadible digital versions of many old gamed. Just google goog old games rollercoaster tycoonn and it should be the first result.

Bumping this since i'm also looking for a ~$300 laptop for pretty much just RCT.  Already have a macbook for everything else and don't really play any other games.  Don't need much storage but RAM could be nice, as well as a maximally big screen for the price.  This is what I'm leaning towards after a quick search, long as nobody has any awful experiences with it or if there's an obviously better choice.

Edit: Bluetooth would also be sick since i can't deal with playing on a trackpad and already have a bluetooth mouse/keyboard for my mac.

i didn't manage to get it working. is there a tutorial somewhere?

I'm the RCT equivalent of a technologically impaired baby boomer and have no concept of any developments in the last 6-8 years (including this 'server' thing u kids are talking about) so I should probably start slow and just use Windows lmao.

inthemanual, could potentially be interested depending on the model/age but ideally prob gonna want to get it in the next few days so I can get back "in shape" for H2H.

I run OpenRCT2 on a mac, it was very easy to set it up as I remember it, though I can't remember exactly how I did it (was a couple of years ago now that I installed it). I did run RCT2 in a Wineskin before that, could be that I just copied the installation folder from there to my home folder... Check the openrct2.org if there's a tutorial, otherwise check the forums there, they ought to know. The OpenRCT2 app runs natively in macOS, but it need the files from a RCT2 installation to work and the trouble is getting them on your mac if you haven't got a PC to copy them from.
