General Chat / Depression

Just got back from the appointment. Definitely made things a lot better, and I ended up feeling comfortable with the woman there and shared a lot. She was really nice and understanding; hearing a professional, mature voice is very reassuring. I scheduled another appointment in two weeks. I'm in class now so I can't write a full response but I'm definitely feeling better! We'll see how the next couple weeks go I guess.

edit: Thank you for all of your responses! Today was my best day of the past month.

My real name is Jack by the way.

I've been to counseling regularly twice in the past. First in senior year of high school, and again last summer. The place I went to in high school made things worse. Since it was Christian-based, their message was: "everything you need to heal can be found through God," which is one of the worst/stupidest things you can tell a teenager who is looking to learn how to strengthen and support themselves.

Last summer is when I told my dad that I have depression and anxiety. Even though he was initially against it, I set up appointments with an amazing counselor whom I love. She has helped me heal more than I ever would have without her guidance. Not to invalidate the previous paragraph, but I really don't know where I would be otherwise. Last summer was a huge self-esteem boost and set me up more than fine for sophomore year. And here I am.

@Steve: I haven't considered AA or NA, but that sounds like a good idea. I looked it up for my town and there are meetings near where I live on Mondays, so I'll see how I'm feeling then.
