RCT Discussion / Spotlights in all but name

  • Liampie%s's Photo

Parks that got a high score but missed out on some yes votes, parks that became more popular over time, parks that were submitted in the same month as an even better park and therefore became 'runner-ups', non-competitive submissions, externally released parks, there are a lot of parks that did not win spotlight, but have all the quality to be a spotlight and/or have an exceptional status anyway. Which parks do you think are part of that absolute top tier of parks?

I think the most obvious spotlights in all but name are the ones submitted under the old system, in the early years of NE. Some of these parks are as good as anything, but are currently labeled as 'silver' or sometimes 'gold'.

    - Portal of Heaven by Ablaze. Great mix of traditional NE stuff, and uniqueness. It has all the grandeur of a spotlight.

    - EverQuest: Waters of the Past by Prince.

    - Kronekraft's Allure Lake by posix

    - Brighton Glen by Ozone - I understand why it's not a spotlight and I'm still unsure if I would've voted yes or no, but this park still is one of the first things that comes to mind. Sometimes mediocre, but also absolutely monumental at times.

    - The Masterpiece by X250. The quintessential borderline spotlight. An unfortunately awkward mix of styles.

    - Paradise Island by Faceman. Spotlight quality stolen goods

    - NE's Mirage Islands - I think this one is a bit underrated to be honest. It gets too much shit for the sometimes controversial building process, rather than the end result.

    - Duinenzicht by Paul999. Here comes the fanboy again. This park and it's history is a fucking monument.

What parks are up there in your opinion?

I always forget about paradise island. Thats one of the few on that list that was really in my time.

-I'd lock in Age of Empires, being a winner of the high-rollers or whatever contest it couldn't win spotlight but is essentially a super high quality LL solo (that entrance area...)

-The masterpiece was one of the first parks I downloaded at NE and has a special place in my heart.

There are a lot of really good LL ones. A few that I notice from a very quick browse that I like:

    -Everquest: Waters of the Past

-Busch Gardens Europe (not LL, but this is a borderline rct2 one)

-(dang most of the old parks are sorted in silver, not gold... lets get some votes I guess)

-(just noticing a bunch of parks I've never seen before, like an old evil wme one. gotta check these out later)

    -wasted years by twisted? debatable

-universals lost world by evil wme (personally just really vibe it)

-warner bros hawaiian adventure by ozone

    i'll update more later

Disneyland Resort New York by Lazyboy. This park doesn't have an accolade score yet and I think if it would still get one today it wouldn't do it any justice. I am kind of suprised this park is basically forgotten about since at the time I was so impressed by this park. In my opinion its the best park of its time.

Saw this did not get mentioned yet but Baker Lake Amusement Park by Coupon, 1 vote short of being spotlight and I still love that park. Got a super high score as well with 86%.

I think Baker Lake is a good call. Probably one of my favorite modern realism parks.

Also looking at Liam's list in the first post i fully agree with Mirage Islands. In retrospective view i think that it was a very influential park and especially building process in MP, that probably together with Riverland and Lagom's stuff defined how this certain kind of rct (european realism?) is built these days.

The problem with MI is that is super fragmented and inconsistent, there's no real concept behind it other than just a bunch of themed areas, and outside the backside of the park is poorly planned. I think it's the definition of high gold and is scored correctly.
