Yes, those. Some years ago i collected the entire original book series from the 1940s and 50s. Much better than the current show. Much darker and realistic as well as the author took great pride in the fact that his stories were based off real railway incidents, finding inspiration in the little event-pages in the back of railway magazines.
Yes, the characters in the tv show are based off the book series, but are flandarised to fit the preschool demographic, although I've heard they're slowly going back to the original source material.

I just finished Bluebeard by my favourite writer Kurt Vonnegut. Great book! One of his better ones.
Now I'm reading The Sellout by Paul Beatty. I'm at page 100 and really excited for what's to come. Hilarious book! -

I'm reading Ray Bradbury's October Country - it's a collection of his short stories and although some of them are really odd they're very good.
I highly recommend! Just finished White Fang too by Jack London. That's what jump-started me into reading again.

I finished The Grapes of Wrath and The Catcher In the Rye since the beginning of the year. Both were fantastic. Next on my list is The Alchemist.

My co-worker started a classic literature club. Sadly she had to stop after just a year, but she sure read a lot of them, including both that you read. I read Catcher in the Rye when I was in high-school but I don't remember anything about it. Have to re-read it sometime soon.

Anyone have any good Dystopian recommendations? And yes, I've already read Divergent and Hunger Games, so don't recommend them.

Half way through The Noise of Time by Julian Barnes, a fictionalized account of the life of Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich and the trouble he repeatedly encountered with the Soviet authorities. I heartily recommend it! And go listen to some of Shostakovich's symphonies as well, very good.
