Description
This is Death Run, a fierce race held deep within the heart of the Realm of Death. Flaming red rocks, sinister towering structures and overflowing with bones. With only one way out, win the race.
Built for DKMP's Ride Creation Contest 73.
I hope you all enjoy. -

Its a pretty simple, but awesome park. Big central structure that looks fantasitc and 2 flowing tracks going around in a pretty damn good landscape. Rockwork is quite lovely too and the custom trees are a nice touch. Colors are excellent, love the black architecture on red landscape.
However i wished there was more detailing and movement, confining the peeps to such a small part of the park isnt great imo. Map edge is also not really to my taste.
But overall a really solid park, congrats on finishing it! i enjoyed it a lot, good work from you both
Fantastic building, great landscaping, and awesome color palette.
The go karts feel a bit out of place in the rest of the map, and I think it would have benefitted from more detail in the ride itself.
I'm also missing a flat ride and a bit more life throughout the park.
Really enjoyable entry that really pops upon opening.
Really enjoyed this entry. Very strong landscaping overall. Could've used a bit more stuff around the map.. but I think this entry achieved what it set out to do. You clearly had fun making this map.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. And yes... in retrospect I wanted to do more, but this entry had a specific goal and story attached to it which wouldn't have worked with peeps running around dandy and free. But I will take all of this information into the next one, of course. It's only gonna get better from here, I hope!
I enjoyed the dedication to visual expression with this one. The colours definitely worked. The church was impressive too. Just these large structures tend to evoke passitivity, as it's hard to interact with them as a viewer. The go-karts ride itself was fun, but as the main piece of attention for a Design felt a bit undercooked. Stylistically I thought some aspects worked, but others didn't, and thus the map didn't quite come together for me.
interesting attempt at a pretty out-there visual effect, what was there was interesting but i wanted a little more of everything. more of a backstory told through the map, a little deeper theme development. visually there are some really great moments though. color scheme is great, the orange trees and the flower usage is cool. nice map!
very stylish! As others have mentioned the strongest thing about this is the high contrast colours which create a very vivid message - my problem is that the strong elements such as the landscaping and the cool dominating building aren't quite enough to really make me fall in love.
all in all, very strong showing from two great builders. it just needed more development!!! looking forward to what you do next, because this wasn't quite as satisfying as its potential, but it has made me very excited for what you do next!
This was cool. The new go-kart track pieces are put to good use, and the castle was impressive. I liked the landscaping in most respects, including how you did the trees, but some of the waterfalls were left looking a bit angular. The map also felt a bit hollow, with peeps only present in a few areas, and there being relatively little movement. Solid work nonetheless. 65%
Appreciate all the feedback. A little bummed this didn't win Design, but I had fun finishing this up with Doursen. He sent me a ton of screens as he worked on this and I thought it had tons of potential. Time got the best of him though, and when I heard him mention he wouldn't finish I asked to hop on.
I did the coaster and the flatland sections next to the church, the latter of which Doursen detailed really nicely. The coaster was a strategic move to plan some fun macro elements, as much of the map around it was very underdeveloped. Was a little hard finding a fitting coaster type that wouldn't take away from the already existing go-karts as well as not completely ripping off Maverix's boner coaster from Hell. I really wish I had thought to add some fun details like crashed karts in the lava and on the rocks, but this did not come to my mind until right after we lost by 0.03 points to Rhythm in the voting. I also considered throwing in a drop tower on the very low corner of the map, but again I was gassed at this point.
It is now that I would like to show you all why this map may be lacking in a few areas. Behold Death Run with two days to the deadline.
My work on this map was pretty much how I spent my entire Memorial Day. I pushed and pushed and pushed until 3 AM knowing damn well I had work in five hours. That's what happens when a player as promising as Doursen believes in you. Look out for him by the way, he's gonna be a monster with a few more maps under his belt.
I thoroughly loved the church's architecture. If there's any major criticism here, based on what you mentioned about a lack of time, it would be how the cliffs were developed. Even some basic paths interacting with the rides would go a long way here. Regardless I really like this and its color choices. A lot of clever object use too to vary up the church's texture
Damn, I was hoping to see this get design. A go-karts design winner would have been so, so cool. The readme was also nice and very-well written as far as descriptions are concerned. The new go-karts track is really cool because here, the ride almost functions as a roller-coaster with all of the drops and interactions; shit looks so fun but so dangerous. I do think the base-game karts do look a little out of place here; perhaps the TT caveman karts or roaring 20's karts would have fit better with the theme.
The atmosphere of this is really good, it's like Doom-meets-Terraria's underworld. I love the glowing orange lava(?) trees and you have a lot of good design choices, like choosing black for the cathedral to make it stand apart from the rockwork; though I do wonder if black rockwork would also look good here. The bone roller-coaster was also neat and I chuckled at the anti-communion wafers.
I think the thing that might have held this back from getting design despite the atmosphere would be that there's not a lot of 'stuff' in it. There are only two functioning rides, and a park like this is absolutely begging for tons of Easter eggs and small details. Still, despite that, this is an amazing execution of a theme that's tough to make aesthetically pleasing.
