I am not that excited this year, just because I am not attached to any of these movies like I was to Lord of the Rings.

    Discuss.

Kinda impassive too, really. It'd be funny if Foxx won both actor awards. Haven't seen most of those films though cos they aren't out over here yet.

I'm amazing Blade Trinity isn't up for any awards :p

The Incredibles has no competition for Best Animated; and I had to laugh when I saw Tupac: Resurection up for Best Documentary. I'm surprised that Collateral got a few nominations. It was an amazing movie but I wasn't sure if the Oscars would have acknowledged that.

    Go Natalie!

    Kai :huey:

What the hell is "Millon doller baby"? id like to see that if its got Clint Eastwood in it..
  • Themeparkmaster%s's Photo
I haven't seen the Aviator, does it warrant that many nominations?

I hope Natalie Portman and Clive Owen win, Closer was amazing.
  • natelox%s's Photo
The Aviator was good but it spent too much time focusing on Howard's agoraphobia (or whatever it was). Even if that was a large part of his life, it becomes boring to watch it after a while. The acting was incredible, as was the direction, costumes and all. I wouldn't give it a win in all the categories it's nominated, but I can see where they're comming from. It's worth watching if you're considering it. Just to let you know, it's a long one. It's 2hours and 50mins long.
  • Roomie%s's Photo
Ohhh good to see collateral got a few nominations. Didnt think it would get any.
The way the film was shot was amazing. And the use of music was incredibly well done.

still love watching it to this day.
Foxx was incredible aswell. as seeing cruise in one ofthe more oddball rolls.

Can't believe you spelt that wrong.

    Yeah spider man 2 !
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
I'd say Incredibles and Shrek 2 were pretty darn close, but that's just me.

No real favorite this year, and no real film I really was attached to ('cept Phantom of the Opera, but that's got nothing). Compared to the awesomeness of 2003, 2004 was quite lackluster really.
  • Micool%s's Photo
Yeah...I heard the Aviator wasn't that good ???
I'll have to go pick it up.
Go Pixar and Harry Potter |)

It's a feminist-boxing-tear-jerker he directed. And can you spell? It's "Million", and "Dollar".

Oh, yeah, anyways: few of the nominated films look very interesting to me. "House of flying daggers" may be good, but, we'll see.

    Hello.

Of course Eternal Sunshine gets snubbed...
    Figures...

Anyway I want it to win best original scrrenplay, but it won't since the academy loves giving the same movie every award even if it's unwarranted.

    Oh well.
The Aviator will win best picture hands down. It was good, but doesn't deserve best screenplay.

I see Alexander Payne got his nominations he was supposed to get... I haven't seen his movies though I've heard mixed reviews. He seemed like a cool guy when he came to our school to recieve an alumni-of-the-year award, anyway.

The original post has to have the worst formatting I've ever seen. It's unreadable.

Anyway, nothing too unexpected went on this morning, save for Mike Leigh's Best Director nomination... seeing Million Dollar Baby and Hotel Rwanda this week.
  • postit%s's Photo
Probably the worst round of nominations in my life. There really wasn't anything good this past year. Aviator, Neverland, and Million Dollar Baby will clean up.
  • coasterfrk%s's Photo
I'm a little disappointed Phantom didn't at least get nominations for Best Picture and Visual Effects. I know it wouldn't have won BP at least, but I thought it would be an obvious pick to at least nominate. I have just about the same feelings for visual effects except that if Harry Potter can stand a chance, Phantom could definitely too. :( Oh well.

As for The Aviator, it was good, but entirely too long. It focused a lot on Hughes' phobias and compulsions, but I was confused why/how they started. I assumed they were referenced to in the opening scene with the mom bathing him. I don't know. It focused a lot on his inward issues but didn't provide a clear enough explanation for me. On a side-note, I see somewhat of a Scorsese (sp?) working with DiCaprio trend...Gangs of NY, The Aviator, and something else is heading into production. 8@

Oh, and my mom told me that Finding Neverland was incredible, so don't write it off yet.
  • Geoff%s's Photo
I'm pissed that Natalie Portman didn't get the nomination for "Garden State" rather than "Closer."

My God, it's bluntly obvious she had a better performance in Garden State. She is a superb actress, so I'm amazingly happy she got nominated :D The Oscars like strippers... what can I say?

I'm also mad that Jim Carrey got snubbed for his performance in "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind."

...but hey, at least Kate Winslet got a nominee :D GO ETERNAL SUNSHINE. It better win original screenplay. Alright, and now I'm rambling..

Sorry to veer terribly off topic, but vTd... your avatar fucking rules man! Where did you get it?
