General Chat / Which Bat?

Which Batman movie do you like best?

In light of the fairly recent release of the new Batman movie and my mom's urge to buy the rest of the Batman movies on DVD, I just thought it would be interesting to see some people's opinions around here. I'm predicting that a certain few of the movies won't get very many...or any at all...votes, but I'll let the results speak for themselves. With your vote, feel free to rank the movies in a reply should you so desire.

Personally (and maybe call me strange), I'm thinking that I've liked Batman Returns the best. Maybe it was the penguins with their missiles, or maybe it was that scene where Catwoman licked Batman's face on the rooftop...I don't really know. Whatever the case, that one tops my list. Then my list would have to rank as follows:

    1. Batman Returns
    2. Batman (The original)
    3. Batman Begins
    4. Batman Forever
    5. Batman & Robin

Batman Returns, easily. It captures everything I love about Batman perfectly. The darkness, the wierdness, the sexiness, and PENGUINS! Penguins kick ass. And kitties! Kitties kick ass! Now if only they could fit in a pig too...

    Anyways.

My list, with rating based upon success as a Batman film, not a film in general:

    1. Batman Returns, 8
    2. Batman Begins, 6
    3. Batman, 4
    4. Batman Forever, 2
    5. Batman and Robin, 0

Now, just for the sake of being pointless, here's a list with my ratings based upon success as a film in general:

    1. Batman Returns, 4
    2. Batman Begins, 4
    3. Batman, 2
    4. Batman Forever, -4
    5. Batman and Robin, -4

The lineup stays the same, but it all clearly takes a beating. Still, I have been loyal to the Batman brand since I can remember, and it's one of the few things. Roald Dahl, Tim Burton, truly "classic" horror films (Dracula, Bride of Frankenstien, Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari, etc), Lord of the Rings (and related writings), the Brothers Grimm, true Walt Disney films (that is, the ones made by Walt Disney), a few others.

So... whatever... because it's stayed such a lasting part of my life, for absolutely no apparent reason, I'm not about to get rid of it. Besides, only 2 Batman movies I've seen fall below 0, which on my scale is neutral. So most of them are still "good", even if none of them are "great".

I really liked Batman Begins, so that's probably my favorite. Batman Returns is still good, so it's second. I wasn't terribly impressed by Batman that much when I saw it (which was a while ago), so it's third. Batman Forever I am fairly neutral about. It's enjoyable, but a little cheesy Still, all of them are far better than Batman and Robin, which flat out sucked.

I've seen none of them. But the Batman Forever cast sounds amusing, even if it still sucks.

I'd say Batman Forever had the top cast, but even those great actors proved able to be pitiful at times. I did like Carrey at parts, though.

I like Begins best. I thought it was most interesting, just a good film. Though Burton's work is still pretty damn good.

    My list:

    Batman Begins
    Batman Returns
    Batman
    Batman Forever
    Batman and Robin

The original Batman for me. Then Batman Returns followed closely by Batman Begins. Michael Keaton was extremely good in the first two. He seemed to fit the older Bruce Wayne/Batman quite well. Batman Returns was an excellent movie even though it was a little slow in the beginning. I'm looking forward to any sequels to this one.

The third and fourth films totally sucked; Clooney and Kilmer just don't have what it takes to play a character that dark well. But Uma Thurman did do Poison Ivy well.

Have any of you ever even read a batman comic? Because none of them apart from Batman Begins get even close to emulating the dark nature of the comics.

In fact, recently comic book films have been getting better and better at staying true to their comics/graphic novels. Sin City was pure perfection, Spiderman is reasonably accurate, Fantastic Four is scaringly the same (except they changed their suits, and the invisible woman really should have jet blond hair) and of course Batman Begins.

I agree with deanosrs about everything except for Fantastic Four. From what I have seen of it, the FF member that seems to be casted right is the Human Torch. The rest are just stupid. It looks like they ruined Dr. Doom :/

Let me just jump in here... and say... I think Ghost World is the best comic book movie ever made. :D

Art School Confidential is also one to look out for.

Haha, Jacko, that was unexpected :p

While on the topic of good comic book movies, I just have to mention Hellboy. Bad ending, but up until then it's a great adaption and a great movie. The comic is still lots better though.

Batman sucks. X-men, Spiderman, and Superman are a lot better.
