General Chat / iTunes or Winamp

I've updated my iPod I got for Xmas a full two times simple because I hate all the hassle, I would like to change this habit.
iTunes is a memory sucking piece of shit, but the iPod works so well with it. If I were to use Winamp it's one big fucking pain in the ass to get it to work.

    Ideas?

Stay with itunes. It's worth all that memory sucking.

Or dump your ipod and get one of these

Better sound quality, more features, and much longer battery life.

Sound-quality is a void argument, it is completly dependant on what bitrate you encode it at.
I just the iPod wasn't so fucking dependant on the iTunes.

No, just keep iTunes. I haven't found it too memory sucking at all...how much RAM do you have?
Btw Ed, the reason I have gone for an iPod is its interface is so nice...it's not only aesthetically pleasing, but it's just so easy to scroll around at the touch of a finger rather than dealing with clanky buttons...not that I want to start the old "iPod is shit" debate again!

I've got a 1024mb of ram, but I do NOT want to waste 65mb on some shitty mp3 player, while I could only be spending 5mb.

What it comes down to is the fact that iTunes is a shitty piece of software designed by a lazy ass company, which thinks that because it can sell a shit load of a product they don't need to care about quality.

iTunes is a piece of shit. FUCK YOU.

Mmm...well in that case, I'm really not sure what to suggest...there was this thing I read about a while ago called skiTunes, and it's just been released. Not sure if that's what you're after though http://skitunes.iindigo3d.com/

EDIT: oops...realised you probably weren't on mac ;)

It's not just bitrate though. The ipod doesn't put out very much bass unless you hook it up to an amplifier or something, but who wants to do that? That kindof ruins the point of the portable music player doesn't it? That was the biggest reason I didn't get an ipod (even though the interface is much better than anything else out there) because I like to hear a lot of bass in my music.

It has a Bass Booster EQ...

Just do a sound comparison if you can get your hands on some other mp3 players. You'll see what I mean. Or rather, you'll hear it.

iPod still comes with shitty software and has a shitty battery.

iPod is still, in my opinion, the easiest to use of all mp3 players. So I'm sticking with it.
iTunes is also the most organized computer mp3 software I think. That's why I use it. Winamp isn't organized enough for my taste.

Oh and I've bought things from the iTunes music store, so I'm stuck with iPod now. :(

Steve Jobs is a fucking dick.

If you've got a PC then you don't need any software at all with a lot of MP3 players. Just plug it in and drag the files over like it's a hard drive.
  • JBruckner%s's Photo
Yeah, well, since I refuse to plug-in my firewire hardware to my computer I am stuck with shitty USB which only transfers at 900kb/s. Sad.
Fuck, atleast I am not using iCrap anymore, Winamp with the iTunes plugin rocks, and is much more stable.

The USB connection's always been fine for me. It doesn't take that long, especially considering the fact that when I update my iPod, it's only adding maybe 50 new songs max.
  • JBruckner%s's Photo
I don't think I've installed USB2 support, which is much faster.
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
    Well there you have it.

I would think a technologically-inclined person such as yourself would be hip to USB 2.0. Go for it, makes things much better all around.

    Winamp > * for audio

and DivX Player > * for videos

My iPod puts out the same amount of bass as the songs when played from my iBook, or even my cd player if i connect the speakers via the headphone jack.....

iTunes is VERY easy to use for me, doesn't seem to be sucking much memory either. Guess all the Apples products work better when put together.

I'd go with iTunes, I have iTunes along with my iPod on my computerand it seems to work perfectly. I can't recall of any negatives I have had using it one bit.
