General Chat / Six Flags New England

I need to share something. Though I know it's been said so many times, I feel the need to reiterate: Six Flags New England is terrible. I just went there today, right. And my God, of all the days, today was so humid and muggy, I almost died. I heard people talking to employees about how numerous people suffered heat stroke within the park today. And there is like, NO SHADE in the whole fucking park. Just to top it off, Superman, Batman, and Cyclone were all shut down. Not to mention I wasted money (not mine, really, but my mother's money) on a stupid little Q-Bot that does nothing. So, I spent about 3 hours sweating and getting myself all disgusting. But oh, I got to ride Thunderbolt - so the day was saved. Well, not really. But God. I hate that place. I'm never going back. Ever. I don't care if my life depended on going to that park, I still wouldn't go.
On a somewhat related note that probably only us Massachusetts-folk would understand: The Mass Pike is a motherfucking mess. Literally. I'm surprised we even made it to the park at a reasonable time. God, Driving sucks.

And on another unrelated note, I have a sunburn. The worst one ever. Which contributed even more to my growing hatred of Six Flags. But there is good news! I got the sunburn at a much better place than Six Flags: Lake Winnisquam! In fact, here is a photograph of me (enjoying my time not being at Six Flags):

Breathtaking. I guess I needed the tan/sunburn. But shit, it hurts.
The lesson is, kids - New Hampshire is the greatest. Whether it's snowing or sunny, you're guarenteed a good time (mostly). The other lesson is to wear sunblock, because getting burnt sucks a lot.

    Anyways.

after it goes away you will have a better tan, sacrifices man.

    NO SHIT.
How many times have I said this.

Just go to fucking Canobie Lake. It's nice, cheap, and the Yankee Cannonball is pretty damn fun anyway.

Lastly. Where the hell is Lake Winnisquam?

Wrong. While Canobie Lake is better than SFNE (surprise!), I don't think it's worth spending $28 just to ride the Cannonball. Because everything else there is just a waste of my time, really.

And Winnisquam is there in the lakes region. Next to the other really big lake. I forget the name.

    Winnepausaukee?

At any rate. Amusement parks in the New England region are always a waste of time. Just a day carousing around Boston, or Burlington, or Northampton, all much better experiences, really. Or you can save your money, and go skiing in the winter.

    Winnepausaukee?

That's the one. Such a beautiful area, especially when you have a boat.

I've been to that park several times and it's always been one of the nicer Six Flags parks I've gone to. There is shade in some of the lines that they have. This "horrible day" could have been caused by their new general manager getting thing out of hand. And you can't yell at the park for it being a humid and hot summer day.

Personally I'm speaking on experience from the year after Batman opened, and the year before Batman opened. The last two times I've been there.

It was much nicer when it was Riverside Park. :(

(Also: I mean when it was independent, as well. The last few years of its days as Riverside, when Six Flags owned it but hadn't changed the name yet, is when it started to slide.)

Superman's a great ride, yes. But what else do they have? Nothing else worth mentioning, really. Batman is puny. Cyclone sucks now, I'm surprised it doesn't have rollbacks now with the way it barely crawls over hills.

My experience this year wasn't as severe as yours (it sounded awful!), but still pretty bad that I won't make it a point to get out there any time soon, if ever again. Springfield is just disgusting. No wonder SFNE's employees look pissed off all the time! I'd be livid if I had to live there.

We were there three weeks ago and it was pretty hot, too. Everything was okay, until we got stuck on Mind Eraser for 15 minutes... what a waste of space that ride is. Cyclone was absolutely painful, as per its usual. One thing that I noticed and was shocked about (not really, considering I was at a Six Flags park) was that Mr. Six's Pandimonium didn't have ANY shade structure over the queue AT ALL. Especially since the wait was in excess of 45 minutes... it was ridiculous. I was thoroughly disgusted upon our departure at all of the white trash that was there. Which makes me wonder... are people in Connecticut as gross as their Springfield counterparts? There were quite a few Connecticut plates at the park which would lead me to say yes, although I haven't spent any time in Connecticut to really tell.

And on a semi-related note to Steve's note about the Mass Pike, people in Massachusetts don't know how to drive, in general, at all. From my two weeks there, I've deduced that they either a. are flying down the freeway doing 95mph+, b. are going slower than I-93 during rush hour, or c. are doing a weird combination of a and b. The only fun thing about driving there was the "breakdown lane" driving allowed during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Although, getting stuck on I-95 on more than one occassion en route to Cape Cod was not fun at all. And to think, I'll get to put up with this crap more often in two years!

    Hello.

The next time you rejects want to go to the shithole (aka SFNE), let me know and I will go up.
I just bought a new car and I am accessible again.

I am going to SFA this weekend to ride some bad rides.

Tell me you got to ride BDK, John. :D
I forgot to mention the employees, yeah. I went to pay for a soda (which cost me a bloody fortune) and the guy at the register looked like he just didn't give a shit in general. And I can't believe you rode Mind Eraser. I feel bad for you. :(

The Connecticut conjecture was right on the money. Connecticut is a gross state. And the Springfield area is the worst part of Massachusetts (except maybe the immediate suburbs of Boston that are pretty nasty too). The rest of the Berkshires are nice, though, i.e. the Northampton/Amherst area.

Shit dude, I've never seen it THAT bad.

    And yeah, it sucks.

Yankee Cannonball still is fun, but that park is always ridiculously crowded as well. And like Steve said there's not much else to do. Besides the Starblaster (right next to it), which is only 80-ish feet tall but still kicks some major ass because of the airtime at the top. Go on it, you'll see what I mean. I've been known to go on that at least 10 times in a day. But anyways it's still probaly better than SFNE.

Steve, im going to have to disagree with you right now, sorry brother.

I went to Six Flags on Wednesday, and honestly, besides a few VERY SMALL mishaps, it was a fucking great day. First off, Wednesday was hotter and more humid than Thursday (i went to Water Country on Thursday and was actually cold at many times). We got on some water rides and that was sweet, so we could stay cool for most of the day. We got there and IMMEDIATELY bounced over to Superman, where me and my buddy hopped on front row in about an hour, after a short 10 minute breakdown it had on the lift (never found it what it was, i could care less). The airtime on that ride is so fucking sweet, and the forces in the late portion of the ride... seriously, I think its becoming my favorite coaster in the world over Hulk, Millennium Force, and Goliath. The mist felt GREAT on the hot day, and my arms hurt from fighting the Gs to keep my hands up (a good hurt). Rating: A+. After that we hopped over to Batman: The Dark Knight. That ride, in the back row, is FUCKING AMAZING. So much airtime in the back row, i had never experienced something that nice. Rating: A. After BDK we hit a quick ride on Mind Eraser. We got in the queue and people were saying it was broken... we decided to stay, and the breakdown was fixed in literally 5 minutes and we were on with a 10 minute wait. That ride fucking sucks though...Vekoma is a piece of shit company. Rating: C-. After Mind Eraser we ate lunch, then went over to Flashback. Again, Vekoma kicks my ass. We get through the forward portion of the ride and im like "Holy shit, that wasnt bumpy at all!" just to get absolutely destroyed on my neck on the reverse portion. Rating: C-. After waiting like an hour for my buddy to recover from his severe headache, we hopped on Thunderbolt. Im sorry, but they need like another train or more capacity on that ride...the line fucking CRAWLS. Its fun though, and for an 80 year old coaster, it gets the job done. Rating: B-. Cyclone was closed, which is fine, because after they fixed the drop on it, its nearly worthless, plus ive ridden it times before. My experience with Mr Six's Pandemonium was a weird one. We waited in line for the Blizzard river rapids just next to it, but that line wasnt moving so we bailed to find the Singles line for MSP. We were the next to ride, when the fucking ride ops are like "we have to close this ride due to inclimate weather in the area." Keep in mind, its 95 degrees, sunny, few clouds... no wind. There was a Thunderstorm like 15 miles away (you could hear the thunder) so the ride was closed for an hour or so. This was the last ride we wanted to ride that day, so we waited; despite the annoying chick who was trying to sing and getting shouted at by me and my friend (we were fucking tormenting the ride ops, it was great). I almost went insane with the shitty-ass 80's pop songs they were playing at high volume, but the ride finally re-opened. It was VERY short, but VERY smooth. I think if the whole experience in line wasnt all that bad, i would've enjoyed it more. I'd give it a B-. All in all, a decent day. The employees there kind of do not care, i agree with you on that. The ride op for BDK was very chill, he gets into it. The ride ops for Mr. Six's Pandemonium were a joke...trying to get the crowd going during the wait and failing miserably...although there was one brazilian dude who was cool. The people in the food places dont get the idea of exact change, and often pass up your service to study for some exam in a class they're taking...morons.

The Mass Pike isnt THAT bad, we barely hit any traffic in the 2.5 hours from my town. Really, we were travelling at a nice 95 mph for a while lol.

As for Canobie, i enjoy it there, but i can't make a full day out of it. The Corkscrew gives you a severe headache (another C-). The Yankee Cannonball is one of the best woodies ive ever ridden (B+) and can keep you going the whole day if you can stand the 45 minutes of waiting per-ride. The Rock'n Rider clone is fun too, usually a long wait tho for a short wild-mouse (C+). The flat rides there are decent though... Psychodrome, Turkish Twist, Boston Tea Party, Starblaster (for some reason, the line is ALWAYS only like 5 minutes for this ride, an 80 foot tall S&S Tower). I have fun there, but only once a year.

Water country was fun, and for anyone who was following the construction: the Dragon's Den ride was SPECTACULAR. Easily DESTROYING any other slide there (even the 5 minute wait for Geronimo!). Lots of fun, and its even more fun with a friend who is like 6'4" and nearly 200 lbs so you can go around the bowl like 3 or 4 times. I too got really badly burned on the spot i couldnt reach with my hands on my back. Oh well, it was worth it.

If anyone wants to, ill be at SFNE again on the 18th. Happy riding fellas'!

Steve, give it another shot. Superman is STILL waiting for you ;)

Worchester is much, MUCH worse than Springfield. Springfield is pretty bad though. It reminds me of Providence a lot...

I think we can classify giga under group a and maybe c after more investigation.

What? Providence is a great city.

Also, the Mass Pike is designed to go 95+ on. I don't see the problem here. As long as you bail off the Pike before Boston, there won't be traffic, either.
