Okay. So my brother is usually on the desktop computer, the one with RCT, in our house. A while ago we got this virus that we couldn't get rid of, so we had to make some changes in the registry to get rid of it (not a good idea but Norton wasn't helping either...yes I know Norton sucks). And it worked because we got rid of the virus.
But then after that we couldn't access the control panel (it comes up with an error message: "cannot find the file rundll32.exe or one of its components" or something like that.) Not good. So no control panel. But we didn't need to change anything at the time and it was working fine. So we left it alone.
Then recently my brother got off RCT and claimed that everything on the desktop was enlarged dramatically. So now, we restart it and everything is all enlarged too. and we can't access the control panel to change the display settings...
So that's the story. Anything to help, please, is appreciated. -

I have a solution for you...do you still have your XP (or whatever you're on) recovery disk? Because if you do, then you should backup anything you need on your Hard Drive and then wipe the computer, and reinstall windows. I think this is what you should have done when you got the virus, instead of pissing with the registry. But if you don't have the recovery disk, you could go to Microsoft Technical Support and see what they have to say for themselves.
As for the resolution issue, there's an option on my Acer AL1714 that changes resolution just from the monitor control panel, maybe there's one on yours? -

Technically you dont have to wipe the hd. What you can try is repairing your install. It should replace any files that you, or the virus screwed up. -

Yep, i had a similar problem the other day thinking about it. If it is windows XP that your are running then to check for errors which have become corrupt you might want to try starting it up with the xp disk in by booting from cd. then when prompted to press 'R' then a DOS prompt should come up and then you type in 'chkdsk /p', this is then basically checking the disk for errors. When this has finished you should then type 'fixboot' and then press enter. And then 'Y' when prompted to. Then to finish it off type 'exit', to get you out of the DOs mode and it should restart your computer. If it is not XP that you are running then i think that these commands should work with another version. Hope this helps. -

Or you could just boot from the disc, and follow the on screen instructions to repair the install.. -
