General Chat / PS2 Disc Read Error

Somtimes it works, other times it loads up but really slow, other times it just says disc read error. Its too old to be covered by any warranty.

I know its a common problem, so does anyone know how to solve it? Just clean the reading eye by opening the console? I want to try fixing it before i go waste £100 on a new one.

i would just hold out until ps3 comes out. no point in buying a new one now.

but when this happened to my old ps2, i ended up just buying a new one. and it's never happened since. but it always seemed to happen with those god damned blue back discs. so that may have something to do with it.

yeah... the same kind of thing happened to me too...
i just bought NCAA06 for my PS2, and now it wont work because of a disc read error...
i dont get it, we keep it in its case whenever we dont play it, and there is no way it can get scratched...

i think it is the playstation that is the problem...
it keeps making a clicking noise, and freezes the game...
it not only does this for NCAA06, but for hot shots golf and spiderman 2 as well (yeah, i have a little brother)...
but is there anyway that i can clean or fix it without buying a new PS2?

I had one disc that would not play at all. When it said the disc was loading it would load forever or come up with some error. One day I tried turning the PS2 so it stood up and it loaded it just fine and I haven't had a problem since.

send it in to sony and they will fix it for free.

I havent got any warrenty on it though? Will it still be free?

they repaired mine last summer and i got it on premier day.
