I can't install themes of extensions in Firefox. I downloaded 1.5, and when I tried installing stuff, the drop down tab told me that 'Software Installation' is not enabled. Click "Edit Options" to change it, then try again.
I click the thing, and there's nowhere in there that actually disables or enables software installation. Plus, whether or not I check or uncheck the "disable popups" and/or the "warn me of installation" options, it doesn't work.
Saving the file and trying to run it does absolutely nothing.
So wtf is going on? Pretty idiotic if Firefox can install its own custom features. I've never tried installing any of this before, so don't know if my older versions (1.07, 1.06, etc...) worked or not.
And for the record, I want the Aquatint theme ( https://addons.mozil...ication=firefox ) and the AdBlock extension ( https://addons.mozil...ication=firefox ). -

when you click on an xpi to install an extension firefox at first will block it to protect your system. it brings up a warn message with the "edit options" button you mentioned.
click it to in there allow popups/xpi from mozilla.org.
after that you should be able to install xpis.
when you click them, it takes a few seconds where nothing happens before a countdown window comes up. after that it's easy.
as for themes, download the package, open firefox and the theme list, drag the package into that window.
usually it's supposed to work automatically, of course. i believe there was some option like "allow installing themes from ...".
when i click on a .jar now it comes up with a confirmation window "install theme? yes? no?".
about adblock, make sure you get the latest. the "check extensions for updates" function worked for all my extensions except adblock since firefox v1.5. so you might just check the official mozilla hp for it and compare the version numbers. -

There's a new adblock at the official adblock site. There's a link to there from the Firefox extensions page. -

None of that works... dragging the theme results in absolutely nothing. Allowing popups from mozilla.org results in the same tab as well.
There's nothing in the options about any sort of "xpi" -

NVM, I uninstalled 1.5, reinstalled 1.0.7, allowed software installation from there, then reinstalled 1.5, and things seem to work now.
Weirdness.
