Fuck, I hate this award show. Memoirs of a Geisha winning best score? John Williams? What the fuck. Seriously.

Discuss all things GG in this thread.

edit: nevermind, they regained some respect when LOST won best drama.

Dude... they're like the Grammy's of the screen world. As much credibility as a junior high school trophy.
  • JBruckner%s's Photo
Hahaha, did you hear what Denise Quaide(sp) said? "Well, let's just say it rhymes with chick flick." So bad and so innapropriate.

I stopped paying attention to any award show when... oh wait, never. They never had merit. For anything.

It is interesting to see what the industry thinks about its movies though.

What'd she say? And about what?
  • Rhynos%s's Photo
Yeah, they are opinions of the music today, but mostof those opinions are from overpaid idiots who attach money with opinions. That right there loses all respect from me and has never held my attention for too long. Sure, they have opinions, but most people will never even hear of Smile Smile or stuff that even hardly considered underground. To me, it just comes to show how much in depth we as a society look at things and miss a great deal of talent and beauty.

what is really pathetic about the golden globes this year isn't that who i wanted to win didn't, but that i didn't want anyone to win. i didn't even want to see any of these movies!

just look at the various "best picture" nominations:

    brokeback mountain: too political.

    the constant gardener: too political.

good night and good luck: too political.

a history of violence: every year there's a movie like this released. lots of sex, violence, and naughty words, with a little bit of drug use, and a vaugely hitchcockian plot, with stars and a director whose names sound familiar, but not really. unfortunitely, this time, the director is david cronenberg, one of my favorites.

match point: the same as above, only the director is woody allen, another of my favorites.

walk the line: i was sort of interested until i heard the soundtrack. somebody should have had the sense to just let the actor fake it.

mrs. henderson presents: a movie with "nudity" in the tagline and judi dench in the title role has absolutely no appeal.

    pride and prejudice: boring.

the producers: can't we just leave the good stuff alone?

the squid and the whale: boring.

Jon Stewart is hosting the Oscars...not the Grammys.

i have no problem with the golden globes or the oscars. i just think it wasn't a very good year for movies in general.
  • Rhynos%s's Photo
So, does this mean King Kong is part of the 06 crowd?
  • vTd%s's Photo
Brokeback Mountain isn't even remotely political. A lot of the hype and bashing surrounding the film is driven by political agendas, but the film certainly isn't political in any way.

sounds like you guys have been watching WAAAYYY too many movies.

you guys've always been the artist group, hence i'm not surprised that eventually it would come to this.

no good movies out there huh.

    really? hmm...

I thought Memoirs of a Geisha, Good night and Good Luck, I also really liked Syriana, King Kong, Munich.

oh wait.. those are all way too boring/political/predictable Hollywood movies.

will anything other then an independent made flick make some of you guys happy?

Paradise Now should have taken Best Picture I think because it was by far, but then nobody saw it so what can you do? Brokeback Mountain was a much better choice than many of the winners in years past anyway. I just looked at the winners today and I was actually pleasantly surprised by most of them.

    ^ thank god, some optimism.

and I still have yet to see paradise now...
