So my old computer got fried, and I was trying to install RCT2 on my other computer. But every time I try to install, it gets to 21% and then fucks up trying to install css9.dat. The error message is:
Component transfer error
Component: Full Install
File: I:\Data\css9.dat
Error: Data error (Cyclic redundancy check).
I tried working around this by doing minimum install, but then it gave me an error saying it couldn't find "Error_Loading" something or other. When it did this, I could still start RCT2, but the screen would just go black. Somebody please help me. -

Tried. Thanks though. After doing some research on CRC errors, it seems dirtiness is not the only cause. And the odd thing is, it was working in my other computer yesterday, and since then I don't think it's gotten any dirtier or anything. Are there any other ways to cure a CRC for RCT2 other than just cleaning the disk?
Or could I possibly get around it somehow?Edited by eman, 23 July 2006 - 06:11 PM.

Did you have RCT installed on this PC before? If so, how long has it been since it was uninstalled?
Are you using a CD or DVD drive to do the install?
Are there any scratches on the CD itself that could be causing the problem? -

Your disc is fucked, trust me. It either has a hidden crack or the CD image is scratched.
Cyclic Reduncy Check is a check performed when data is being transferred from one medium to another. It insures that the data received is the exact same as what was sent. -

Well, after cleaning it for the fifth time, I actually got it to work. There had been a smudge melt residue type thingy left from being in the old computer, and it eventually came off for the most part. So the gist of it is, I got RCT2 installed, and then on startup it was giving me a black screen, so I just went with the no cd patch and now it works. One of the mods or w/e can close this topic now, thanks for all the responses guys.
