General Chat / Windows Media Player

So I just tried to install the media player 11 beta version and when I try and open it I get an error telling me it's not installed properly and I need to install it again. So I click the button it provides to download from the Microsoft website and I get another error telling me it has to close and I can send an error report (you know the one?)

So obviously that left me a bit screwed as I can't open the programme or download it again because everytime I have tried I get the same 'not installed correctly' message. I've tried downloading 10 again but it says a more recent version is already installed (despite my best efforts to delete it) and doesn't let me continue instalation.

Any advice on what I can do? I really want windows media player back.

Have you done the Add/Delete thing in Control Panel?

Yeah no version of media player shows up on the list anywhere. The only problem I can think of is in programme files their is still a windows media player folder and every time I try to delete it, it reappears within 10 seconds.

Edit: Just realised that may have been because the folder was read only but I have changed that and it still wont let me delete it and tells me other programmes or users may be using those files. I closed everything and it still gave me the same message.

My son had a simular problem like you with updating and uninstalling Mediaplayer, only it was not the same version.

Still, maybe this site might give you some clues or help...

Do a system restore...It will restore the old media player version 10,

    Afterwards, download and install winamp..

Media Player Classic is very good too. Plays a lot more stuff than WMP in my experience. Just google for it.
