General Chat / Psychonauts

This is one of those games that should deserve more attention. It unfortunately has poor sales figures and really it's one of those gems in games in my opinion. And the weird thing is: it did get praise by a lot of mayor game sites and magazines... The games design was in the hands of Tim Schafer (sp?), the mind behind the monkey island series and Grim Fandango.
Psychonauts is a platformer and it doesn't have much refreshment in the basic sense. It's strong point however is it's game design. The levels are fresh and original. This game is all about mental stuff. It means that you often enter people minds to help them or train yourself. Unique levels make this game great. Running rampart to the street as Goggalor, trying not to get twisted yourself in the 'nice normal neighbourhood' of Boyd the Milkman or trying to comprehend te power of an angry critic in Gloria's mind, it's brilliant. It also has a good sense of humor. I highly recommend it. It's for PC, XBOX and PS2 btw

edit, I accidentily placed this in the ad, it should be in basic chat, sorry, my mistake.

My friend has this game for the XBOX. It's the most fun game I've played for the console.

This is my favourite game right now, and have been for a few months now (I'm a slow gamer). Though it's not as good as Grim Fandango, I get genuinely happy from playing - it's absolutely brilliant in every way. Particularily, as you say, the design and writing. I really feel for the characters: the game manages to be both really funny and slightly frightening, often at the same time.

I just got to the Black Velvetopia level and it's beautiful!

Tim Schafer is definitely one of the best game creators.

I never got to play Grim Fandango unfortunately (maybe I should check it out). Black Velvetopia is a beatiful level indeed, but not definately not my favorite. It's very hard to choose though. As far as I'm concerned all are great! I was amazed by this game in the variaty of the levels, they're just so totally different, original and perfectly designed. I guess Boyd's mind, Gloria's Mind and 'Linda's Mind' are the best three out of them if I have to choose. The game is quite funny and you miss out a lot of 'interesting conversations' if you don't backtrack and stuff. Also I recommend to show the button you get to reach Sasha's lab to show it to everyone, especially that blond annoying girl. I couldn't stop laughing there. But as you say it is sometimes frightening in a way too. To be more specific that small hidden room in Milla's mind sent a chill through my bones. Probably because it so unexpected in that specific level. You really get a deep feel for the characters and especially the ones in the asylum are to be felt sorry for.

I've only heard good things about this game.
Thing is, I lost my XBOX. I'm still confused on as to how I managed to lose something that size...

I hope that the game becomes backwards compatible with the 360 soon so I can play it.

Huh, sounds like a pretty good game. If I ever get a system capable of playing it, I'll check it out. Monkey Island was awesome, and I've heard good things about Grim Fandango, so this is probably good too.

Psychonauts is the shiznit, pretty much.
though it seems a little short.
    meat circus = bad ending.

Yeah, Meat Circus could have been better, but still not that bad.
btw, why is 'short'? If you really want to see everything in the game your game becomes a lot longer. The first playthrough was +/- 15 hours (if not more) if I remember correctly. After that you still need a good 10 hours to finish it the second playthrough. It's not shorter than the average game these days IMO, especially not for this type of game.

it seemed like there was the one camp mission and then straight to full-blown stuff.. maybe the lack of more exploration time/small missions between that made it seem shorter to me.
