Your best bet is to download the various Spotlights/designs and look through the "Ask the Experts" forum.

Look at real life examples of what you are trying to do, and then recreate them to point in which you like.

exactly. the more real life inspiration you have, the better. you have to have a clear vision in your head of what you want to build before you do so. if you find yourself randomly creating buildings or foliage, it'll end up looking ugly.

when your out and about, just look, dont really concentrait on finding inspiration, it might just come to you ( i end up thiking "... that would look good in RCT" ) it helps me :)

^that is exactly wrong in my opinion.

Yeah, I agree with posix.. You need to have an idea what you want to build.. It can be shapes of buildings, layouts of coasters or just the placing of your foliage..
If you know what "aspect" you want to build and how, you can build really fast and with quality..

Once you're on a roll, then you could go with flow (like Sammy kinda said), but never start anything if you don't know what you want to build/achieve..

^^i have neverfound sitting there and experimenting that helpful, but if im just in the car and i see buildings which look particulaly nice, i try and replicate it in RCT, and i feel my skill has advanced though doing that. perhaps maybenot to fit a theme, but my grasps of making life like buildings has come on.

so posix, you mightn't find it useful, but i do :)
i think this is an discussion where there is more than one right answer. :p

show screens of what you build in the AD
that's the only tip I can give

about the examples: it works as long as you want to copy things from others or make a realistic park. else I would sugest listen a lot of diffrent music, watch a lot of diffrent movies and read a lot of diffrent books. they give you the best inspiration you can get. store it in your mind and when you want something try to image in your head how you want it and try create it the best you can in rct2.
