H2H5 / Ideas

Hmm, I saw the 2 topics for Matchup 1 and Matchup 2 of round 1. Well, I think that only people who can vote, can also place a comment in the forums (for atleast the voting period, after the 120 hours they can react in it). Otherwise we get those bitchfights which we have now about that unfinished park.

And, is it possible that the outcome of the poll is invisible for everybody for those 120 hours? So that you vote on what you think best and not vote on the team that is behind the other in scores?

Well, this were just two suggestions for the admins.

    1. I also think it would be nice if people who can't vote also can't reply.. And after the 120 hours they indeed should be able to comment..

    2. I agree to make it invisible, if that's possible.. Then again, when voted I think it should be made visible..

Don't know if it's possible though, but I think it adds to the fairness and prevents some nasty unneeded comments,

I disagree with both points because people who for example only own LL can still comment on a park. or people from the old days could still comment on the park just by judging it from the areal. ofcourse it might be possible they miss some things but at least they could give some imput. besides that people who have difficulty with voting could reply now and else they couldn't
also I think you should show the votes cause its only after the voting and you aren't allowed to say the votes. but its nice to see how the vote is processing and it make it way more intresting to see a head to head race between two parks in votes. if you didn't saw the votes it would probally be less intresting.
  • Six Frags%s's Photo
Whoops, you're right levis, people can only see the votes after they have voted..

And with the first one, I meant only people from the teams involved (because they are biased)..

^But not all of it is biased. For example I gave a review of the other park, to benefit the other team. The same as its nice to have a review of our park from the other team.
Fair enough their are arguments here and there, but it's just passion over your work.
  • Six Frags%s's Photo
^Yeah, that's why I said to prefer team members commenting after the voting is done.. Not saying everyone is biased, I'm sure there are exceptions, but it just prevents unneeded bashing to occur.. After the voting they can say whatever they want about the other park..

if team members cant comment until the voting is done how can they answer some questions.
for example claims about a certain ride which is a rip off or claims about a park celebrating war. if team members cant comment they cant react to it.
other people could say whatever they want about the park without being corrected.

I'm not a fan of not know what's going on but I must say Cena, those are pretty good ideas.

    [...] corrected.

This is about opinions, and there certainly is no right or wrong.

I personally do not enjoy looking at both threads and the only thing that could be done about it, is not allowing team members (of the participating teams) to comment.

I agree with Levis. Maybe just enforce not posting the current voting score, but otherwise I think it's ok as is.

Hmm, maybe let only the captains say something about the park during the 5 days of voting:) ?

edit: last word posting changed in voting (otherwise it might be confusing)

levis has a decent point, and if you don't let teams comment on their stuff for a few days you're just putting off the firestorm.

there are no rule changes that need to be made here, everyone just needs to come into future rounds with different expectations. I'd really like for the comments to be mature criticisms and certainly not catfights. There are plenty of other methods of contacting people if you have a personal grievance, try to keep the comments objective and neutral- or at least non-inflammatory.

being able to talk about the two entries is one of the most important elements of h2h. the bitchfights are normal, and they pass, believe me. they were the reason why i won "asshole of the year" the first time. allowing people to comment "after" the 120hours is pointless, as it only makes sense to post live. why would we force people to hold in their breath for so long? how is that any fun to them? and who would really post at the very end, when it's clear the discussion is by far not as passionate as it was after 24 or 48 hours of the match.

about hiding the votes. as others have said, before you haven't voted, you can not see the results. therefore this is unnecessary.

I mean like things about computer crashes etc. those things you can say in a topic now. else you couldn't.
yeah posix you did very well i those treats. maybe I can archieve it this year :p .

I just think it's annoying and immature to comment on someones work so negatively only to get other members to have the same opinion and voting as you do..

Besides, if I were to release a park here, I don't want any of those kids to go crazy on some unimportant details and only focus on the negatives of my work (where I put a lot of time and effort in), because they are of "another team" or something like that..

It's just something that always annoyed me about NE, where some members do this.. They don't realize how it is for the creator of that park, after putting that hard work and effort in.. Sure, you can always dislike something about the park, but AT LEAST try to give some arguments and constructive criticism and put it in perspective by giving some positives too..

I think we're all grown ups, and don't need this annoying and immature bashing anymore over a computer game..

    SF

edit; And Phil, to me, that is one of the least important things of h2h.. The fun of h2h is seeing some of the greatest parks being build.. The competition element helps in achieving that.. Also, I don't really care about that "passionate" discussion.. The most useful and good comments in round1/match 1& 2 were from members not from the teams involved imho..

I fully agree with everything you said.

To me hiding the vote doesn't make it exciting. I remember specifically Alice and Wonderland vs. Shadow lands was one of the most scary, exciting things that’s happened on the forums, that’s why it was matchup of the season. By taking the excitement out of watching the match unfold is like stripping the heart and competitive spirit out of H2H.

Also if a park is taken the wrong way and offends people how can the creator defend that idea? He can't. It's like giving a singer words but not allowing them to sing them back to you. When did we start getting so offended by peoples comments? If you know in yourself you created a decent park then why dispute and get so angry/immature? If I was Levis team, Gee's team, or Magnus' team I'd love the fact I created such a decent park, win or lose I've got a pretty nice park to add to my body of work.

If people can't handle the heat, stay off the forums.

I think things have changed enough already: voting is fairer than it's ever been. Everything else would be purely psychological, ascetic changes that remove the drama, and therefore excitement from the contest.
