RCT Discussion / thrillmatic screens?

  • sloB%s's Photo
    hey all-

haven't been to the site in ages, but had a great time today looking through what's currently going on and of course reliving ancient history.

on that note, could anyone indulge my selfish wish to see some screens of thrillmatic- i vaguely remember what the woodie design looked like but i can't for the life of me remember anything else about it.

anyway, hope everyone's doing well- good to see a constant stream of updates for those still passionate about the game.

    :OMG:

Slob! How have you been man? Missed you around these forums.. :(

If some of the newer people don't know him, he was basically the one who founded the 'realistic-aesthetic' style all those parks nowadays look like..

I agree you should come back man.. Especially around these times, where the realistic-aesthetic style seems to be at its peak..

i'm pretty sure that to say i founded "the semi-realistic style" is to commit a vast overstatement. i'm just part of a long legacy (rrp, sa, etc.)- all i did was yank their steez and adapt it to my sensibilities. looks like plenty of the best now have done the same or similiar with the work of John, Kevin, Steve, Turtle, and perhaps myself. whether or not its true, thanks for the credit my man.

unfortunately don't have time for the game anymore- i'm gonna finish up an undergraduate degree in city planning this coming year and then hopefully pursue an MLA with a certificate in urban design. when in 20 years i'm designing public parks and spaces for the 21st century metropolis, i'll never forget where it aaall started- here, with you fools, fuckin around on rollercoaster tycoon.

I agree those people you mention all had their impact on creating this style; rrp with SWA, sa with RoB and maybe even Ozone with his work back in the days, or Schuessler/Joe Holland in the very beginning..

Then again, imo Universal's Cayman Islands of Adventure was a milestone in all of this, and really opened a lot of people's eyes.. The park did the same to me as Rivers of Babylon did (and I can't give a bigger of a compliment I think).. After that park, a lot of similar parks were released, although of course with the parkmakers' own style, of people like turtle, wme, steve, kevin etc..
Your work prior to your IoA park already told me you had massive amounts of talent, like the bit in mount frost and your high rollers park.. But your IoA just was more of complete package I think, which made its impact heavier :p

Anyway, nice to hear you're doing well.. Seems like designing really is your thing.. Why don't you post some of you urban designs over here? :p
Don't know if that's possible, but corkscrewed and AP also post their architectural designs on these forums ;)

    fuck, it's that guy!!

slob, so great to see you still remember this place and those screens just warmed up my heart. the park hasn't lost one bit of it's charm and your style with it's extreme sence of aesthetics and harmony is still unmatched to this date.

god, i miss this kind of building style so much ... i just kinda remembered where all my fascination for the game came from ...
