RCT Discussion / A massive great nostalgia trip

    Wow

I haven't built a RCT park since the height of Danimation, but the other day, i had an almighty craving to play the game. So, £3 from my local Game Exchange later, and here I am and...

... so much has changed?! More custom scenery and hacks than you can shake a stick at

How in gods name am i going to catch up on about 7 or 8 years out of the game?!

I remember uploading my first solo park to Danimation andgetting a 4 or 4.5 out of 5 and being absolutely chuffed to bits. It upsets me a little that i will never see that park again. I vaguely remember having a rollercoaster called Lazarus in there. There was definitely a duelling (corkscrew?) coaster that went through different stages of 'time'( dinosaurs to future, pre TT), and there was a wild mouse coaster encased in a big square building to the left of the entrance. And thats all i remember :(

Guys ... where do i start after so long off the front line?!

Hey, awesome to see some old guys return. I'm afraid I can't help you with the park related question, but may I ask what your id was at Danimation? Or was it the same?

The H2H bench is a good bench to download that has all the best custom scenery.

It's a matter of practice and trying new things. It's also useful to advertise your work so you can get some feedback, i mean you know what i'm talking about, after all, you are a RCT player. Welcome back and start building! :p

Posix, I honestly can't remember. I think it was Dr Pepper. But i might be wrong. Pretty sure that was my handle at the time, so it was likely to be. I only ever uploaded one solo park and then, if memory servies me correctly, the site crashed or went some overhaul or something. It was pre RCT2, so it was a long bloody time ago, about the time Danimation started to get taken over by RCT fans. It all came flooding back to me the other day

I had no custom scenery back then though. Looking at some of the parks on these pages it seems especially daunting to try and bet back into it but i used to love it way back when and the old addiction has returned, so i guess ill have to slip back into it slowly and try and get a handle on things.

The only problem is everyone seems so obscenely advanced for what i remember back then. But hey, it might be like riding a bicycle. Fingers crossed eh?

You were Dr Pepper? Holy shit, dude.

I'm guessing your name isn't Nathan, is it? He would have been "The Dr. Pepper"
  • Ross Bad Taste%s's Photo
Ha. My name isn't Nathan, so i guess i'm not 'The' Dr Pepper. I don't even remember if i posted regularly on the forums at all. It was so bloody long ago

I have several annoying 'nob' questions now ive been out of the game so long though. Ill post them here but also in the Ask the Experts forum, as i can barely remember a single thing from 'the good old days'.

have been out of this game for years and years. I built my first park with a trainer about 8 years ago and since then, the world has turned and left me here (as Mr Cuomo would say). I realise this is all frustrating N00b stuff, but at the moment, im a frustrated n00b, so ...

    So many questions....

Firstly, kicking off with the H2H5 bridge ... am i stuck with the scenery in there? How do i import custom scenery into the bench? Or can I only use what has been set up in there?

What utilities do i need to do this properly? I have the 8 cars and SOB trainers, is there anything else i need?

When im building structures, well ... how do i build structures? Do i stack items on top of one another? I tried using stack objects in SOb but it caused all sorts of problems. How do i build a simple shell of a building, or a station for a ride to start in? This is the most frustrating part. I can manipulate scenery, but i dont want it to look all blocky, so how the hell do i build advanced, hell, even simple buildings?

Those are the first few things that are annoying me. Gratitude in advance for anyone who can be bothered to help

Prior to building any rides (or before any that would be hard to replace, at least) you can take the game back to the scenario editor by opening the park from within the SE. Then you can adjust the scenery (and rides, and stalls, paths, etc.) options as you'd like.

If you'd rather not do that, ParkDAT will import scenery. However, I can't explain that because I never use it.

What utilities do i need to do this properly? I have the 8 cars and SOB trainers, is there anything else i need?

8cars is really the only necessity for RCT2.

Um, if you hold down shift, you can vertically stack objects in-game, no trainers necessary. (Hold control while over another object to place something at the same height.) As for buildings: this is something you have to build up to -- no pun intended. Something that's recently helped my architecture a lot is to build buildings from the inside out: come up with an internal layout and build a shell around it.

Welcome back, as well. Kind of weird to meet people from so far before I joined the community. (And hell, I'm an older member now.)

I think you should start doing very simple things before you try to be perfect. First learn how the objects work and how you can use them to make structures. Focus on one thing at a time!

SoB can be very useful also, it has functions 8Cars doesn't have. I recommend you not to use the trainers yet, if you use them in a wrong way you can fuck up your savegame or even the whole game. Again, start simple!
  • Louis!%s's Photo
Neither 8cars or SOB can fuck up your game badly.

And without 8cars you cant learn a whole lot about building with detail.

May be true, but all the hacking gave me some glitches which appear in every savegame. The appear for a while (days, weeks or months) to suddenly disappear. At it's worst it causes error trappers.
