General Chat / Dreamweaver help

Hello is anyone a pro using dreamweaver? I'm building my website to display my Graphic Design work and I have a very nice design in mind I just can't seem to get the coding right for one of the panels.

I'm using CS4 and any help would be amazing.

My question is mostly about placing a spry within a spry. If your good with spry please post as I really need some help.

    Thanks guys.

I used to use dreamweaver, but your most powerful tool is notepad to be completely honest. I still use Dreamweaver as a small help/guide for html, but doing it by hand is the correct way to do it. While Dreamweaver can be ok, I can say with confidence almost anyone good at site design codes it themselves.

Anyways, your probably having trouble getting sprys to work correctly is that your using Dreamweaver, and a lot of times when you get it to work on there. It still won't work in most, or all browsers like you wanted. Website design is really the biggest trial and error thing you could possibly do. I don't know the code off hand for the sprys (or tables I'm assuming, It's been awhile so I'm a little rusty on all the technical terms.) But google and site design help sites got me through 6 years of running my old website.

^Agree. Use notepad or at least a editor that doesn't code shit you don't need in between.
It's much easier and keeps the overview better if you code it yourself.

Oh but I've never worked with that spry thingy, sorry!

Yeah I've sorted the sprys but I'm worried like you said it appears different in browsers. I have 12 days to get it up and running with other projects so I'm just gonna bite the bullet and work hard on other stuff and get the basics for the website.

It's a hard one but hopefully I'll be showing you guys my site soon.

Edit - As I'm doing a Graphic Design degree my university literally hasn't done anything to teach us web design other than the tables method where you slice each section. I really didn't like the look so I've started to do it my own way. It's a challenge put it that way.

    what is a spry

Spry's are pretty much only for Dreamweaver, and can be used for dropdown menu's. I think they can also be a replacement for normal tables. I don't know too much about em, but they can do some cool stuff. But they are also very flawed. Using tables aren't a bad option. Again, coding stuff your self is always your best bet. It's kinda weird that your university is having you use Dreamweaver for site design. But it sounds like it's a graphic design class, so it may have something to do with also using photoshop.

So, how is Dreamport going :D

About the different browsers; don't forget tot test it Opera 10.5, Safari and Google Chrome, I assume you have tested it in Firefox and Internet Explorer already? Opera is the important if you ask me ... It's by far the best browser however many companies don't support it yet ... But their market share is growing :D Hope I helped you a bit here ....

I'm testing it in Opera and safari at the minute and I should really try it with firefox very soon. Thanks for all the help so far guys.
