(Archive) Advertising District / New park from an old player...

First things first... A handful of you may recognize the park shown in this screen from a similar screen that XxCedarPointFreakxX poster yesterday. Because of this I have a tiny bit of a confession to make. I am an old RCT player from the early 2000s and I was in fact the name listed previously. So when I came back to this site I went back and read some of my old posts and pretty much moronic statements and decided to just create a new account just to move on from that. Problem is... I forgot to switch back to this account when I posted the screens and I wasn't able to delete the post and couldnt take the screens down before people had already seen them. Simply put my cover has been blown! Anyways, to the point... I was going to hide from the fact that I was indeed the infamous XxCedarPointFreakxX as to not lose respect from a certain amount of you, but instead I shall simply say this. Back in 2003 when I joined this site for the first time I was 14 years old, immature, and stupid. I posted a lot of offensive things and frankly an embarrassed. I sincerely apologize to all of you who were members back then for all my posts as XxCedarPointFreakxX. I hope that part of my adolescence doesn't hurt any of your opinions of me and that I can start with a clean slate as I attempt to rejoin the community here.

Moving on... Back in 2004, I really thought I was talented in this game. However, looking back on some of my old work I find it laughable. So this new "Welcome Back" project I'm working on I feel is already the most detailed and mature work I've done to date despite a nearly 6 year layoff. Now, that is not to say I don't have plenty yet to learn, but I would really appreciate your comments on my work. The screen I'm posting is from a 50x50 that I kind of just jumped into... didn't really decided on a theme and am now settling into a sort of western/contemporary/wilderness feel, but it's all over the place right now. So yeah... any comments would be awesome and I'd love to hear what you think.

Specifically I am wondering your guys opinions on my colors as far as the aqueduct system, the buildings, flowers and pretty much everything. I am actually slightly color deficient and really struggle to tell the difference between the light browns and light greens at times. From my perspective, I have 3 tan buildings, one light brown, one red, one white, and then the half brown/white building. So if those three tan buildings are light green or whatever just mention it lol. Also, any palette suggestions would be awesome... I like making each building to have its own personality but color scheme is very important in that so again any tips would be really appreciated.

[Note: If you're confused and it's hard to tell in this screen, but the water that starts on the left side of the screen is actually funneled down and tunneled trough the light brown, red, and brown/white building by a sort of aqueduct type system.]

Sorry for the long post and thank you all!

There are some minor key elements that you tend to find in parks now that is lacking in your screen: some sort of land texture other than grass beneath path, teal-colored water objects (blends in and resembles water more closely), and a higher detail level, but that last part can wait a bit, you will simply grow into it.

The actual screen is rather interesting, though above you mentioned that you jumped into it without a plan and it shows, but as the park goes on more ideas will come etc. etc. so just keep building on it.

Otherwise, welcome back to the community. Wasn't around when you were here originally (joined just a few years ago) so I've never seen anything of yours, but good luck with this!

Thanks for the comments Nin... I definitely agree with you about the land texture and water objects so I'll make sure to work on those things. As for detail... I can certainly say that I'm a phase builder. What I mean by that is I usually do like all my paths and buildings for a section and then go back over it and add more buildings or trees or things like the aqueduct to tie it all together. So I agree it certainly has a lot of room to go still.

One main thing I am considering is adjusting the park entrance area with those 6 wooden tunnel type things. Looking at this screen from a distance just makes that entrance feel unnecessarily large and just has very little going on so I'll certainly be touching that up as well.

Anyways, thanks again for the comments :)

nin has said a lot of what i would have said. your style is constructing buildings alot like termite mounds. that's just what it makes me think of.

I love it when people come back to the game. It's a whole new discovery waiting to happen. Keep building and it will pay off. What you have isn't bad but it needs development.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I fully intend to develop this project to the fullest of my ability and hope that it can propel me towards some good park making for the future. I'm out of town at the moment and haven't had much time to work on the park much, but when I do I will be sure to add some additional screens. Thanks :)
