Ask the Experts / Ferris Wheel Lift

  • Luketh%s's Photo
Hey, I'd like to create a ferris wheel-style lift for a roller-coaster I'd like to make. The lift idea is based off of "Maximum RPM" at Freestyle Music Park, a park that was shut down pretty quickly after it opened. The lift looked like this, with the cars rolling onto the lift and then rotating upwards and being placed on the drop track.

What I'd like to know is, A) is this possible to do in RCT, and, if so, B) how would you do it?

    Thanks! :mantis:

I believe JJ did something similar in an LL park, quihuatl or however it's spelled. I have absolutely no clue whatsoever how he did it, though.

can a track be made invisible AND toggle chains on it at the same time? if yes, then yes it would be possible.

i have a theory, and let it be known i've had this one right now. i'll go try it.

I believe Levis & Cena have managed it properly and JJ did it in a different way with a similar effect but not exactly correct to the picture.

JJ used vertical drop track toggled to lift chain and made invisible and then placed the ferris wheel I believe.

my attempt numero uno didn't work, but it proved it was possible. if you want the train to go saideways, though, you can't.

^Levis made it go sideways I believe.

    JJ didn't :p

Alright, cool.. Now we just need to get Levis to post here and show me the magic way he did it.

the hard part is "just" to get the timing right.
  • Luketh%s's Photo
Okay, another requirement is it has to be makable by an ameatuer hacker. >.>
  • SSSammy%s's Photo
that's essentially what i did, but much smaller and using v.reel cars.
  • Luketh%s's Photo
So is it a difficult hack or does it just look hard?
  • Evil WME%s's Photo
Wow, Leo.. I didn't know you made that! Did you release it?
  • Splitvision%s's Photo
Oh yeah I remember seeing that video some time ago, sick stuff. Though I might actually almost understand how he did it, I think.
  • GigaG%s's Photo
Well, you could use Roomie's vertical track twist hack, make it invisible with the FF method after toggling chains, and add the wheel.
  • SSSammy%s's Photo
    why the ff method?
